INAM (Illinois Network for Advanced Manufacturing) is a consortium of over 20 community colleges led by William Rainey Harper College. $12.9 million to expand manufacturing training programs across the state of Illinois Illinois STEM learning exchange $2.3 Million in federal funds, with an additional $8 million in leveraged business resources Austin Innovation Park $1.25 M for Training and R&D supported by Mayor, firms and Chicago Federation of Labor South Side of Cook County: CGMP Calumet Green Manufacturing Partnership: A collaborative of trainers, employers, and job developers North Side of Cook County: MCIP (Manufacturing Careers Internship Program) Two Manufacturing Sector Centers: 1. The Current Model

Bridge Program

Usually composed of reading, math, measurement, and safety. Many Programs already incorporate Quality Control principles

Advanced Training

Curriculum is usually multi-leveled: ranging from skills for entry level employment to advanced careers in manufacturing

Job Placement

Most placements are in entry-level jobs (Quality Control or Inspection). Employer does in-house training even if people receive schooling/ training/ certification.

Despite multi-level training, participants are usually placed in entry-level employment. For example, someone that receives a CNC bridge, operation, set-up, and programming training is placed in entry level Quality Control or Inspection.

Proposed Accelerated Model

Bridge/ Basic Occupational Training (15 Weeks?) Screening and Assessment happens at this level Curriculum: - 50% Quality Control/ Inspection Training. Some instruction is delivered electronically to ensure people have computer skills. Possible credential: 1. MSSC: Production Certification

(CPT) 2. NIMS: Measurements,

Materials, and Safety - 50% is Job Readiness Training founded on principles of entrepreneurial leadership, diversity training, customer service, and professionalism

Job Placement & OJT (Job Brokers) OJT is used to ensure further training once employed With OJT, WIA candidate is placed in employment sooner and still received company specific training Job Brokers translate the needs of employers into curriculum development

Advanced Training Workers have the option to go back to school and enroll in an INAM track (Mechatronics, Precision Machining, Metal Fabrication, or Supply Chain Management). Manufacturers may provide some tuition reimbursement for employees they recommend for further training (those that don’t qualify for FAFSA) Prior Learning Assessments (PLA/ credit by portfolio) are used to ensure people are placed directly into hands-on training

Partner Roles in Accelerated Program

1. Bridge/ Basic Occupational Manufacturing Training Organizations and/or schools that have at least 3 years experience in delivering manufacturing bridge and/or training programs AND have capacity to deliver cohorts of Quality Control accelerated training

2. Job Brokers: Organizations that have portfolios of manufacturers, have at least 3 years experience of delivering TA assistance to manufacturing clients AND have demonstrated capacity to perform job placement and administration of OJT

3. Advanced Training Institutions: Training institutions, schools, or colleges that have established advanced manufacturing trainings or courses and offer credentials of economic value. Preferably a trainer/school/college that has close connections to manufacturers and place graduates in advanced manufacturing jobs

Deliver 15 week bridge/ basic training program in Quality Control/ Inspection followed by credentialing or certification
