iii) Super structure: all walls are 200mm thick are of brick.

iv) Height of ceiling above floor level is 3000mm.

v) Roof: 120mm thick R.C.C slab.

vi) Parapet wall 100mm thick should be a height of 1000mm above the

roof.

vii) Flooring: 20mm thick c.m. 1:3 over plain cement concrete layer of

1:3:6, 100mm thick.

Calculate the permissible stream pressure, and the longitudinal and

circumterential stresses in the solid plate.

of 10kn. Dematerial is 250Mpa and a factor of safety 2.5 is to be taken.

Poisson’s ratio is 0.3.

7) a) What is Rankine emperical relation for columns?

b) A 3.2m long fixed-end hollow cast-iron column has its internal and

external diameters as 60mm and 80 respectively. Determine Rankine’s

crippling load using the value of crushing stress to be 500Mpa and the

value of the Rankine’s constant 1/1600.

Unit -IV

8) A horizontal continous beam ABC is fixed at C and simply supported at A&B.

The lengths AB and BC are 5m and 6m respectively. A point load of 50KN acts

at a distance of 3m from A and another of 70KN at a distance of 3m from C.

Find the reactions on the supports and draw the shear force and bending moment

diagrams.
