DCBC Internship Programme

Jesus was serious about growing fruitful leaders to grow his kingdom. As a church we are committed to follow in his footsteps. The Internship programme is set up to train and develop such leaders. INTER-GENERATIONAL SERVICESOur IG Services are an opportunity to celebrate the many different generations we are blessed with, have all the children in the service with us and showcase some of the creative talents we have. If you are someone who is excited about one or more of these things then you might be interested in joining the IG Service Team or just helping out with one service. If you are interested in learning more then please contact Mike Bagge: [email protected]

Opportunity to Serve

**Can you help with TRANSPORT to bring people to church on a Sunday morning? Please sign up (email [email protected]) to be on a TRANSPORT REGISTER to bless those who can’t drive or have no car. Thanks.

**Can you commit to serving for 1½ hours once a month as part of the CLEANING TEAM? This can be a flexible time (decided by your team) – not necessarily just on a Saturday morning as previously. We are also looking for any casual volunteers to go on a list to fill in at the last minute if needed or serve during the school holidays only, to give our teams a wee break. Please email ([email protected]) if you think this sounds like a place of service for you, where you could learn and grow and make a difference. Thanks.

Pastoral Care

We have a team of people who can get alongside you, in a non-judgemental way to care and help you discover God's help and a way forward.

If you would like to talk to someone - contact one of the following people: Bruce Elder (ph 454.3173 or 021.127.8110), Andrea Astwood (ph 454.5542) or Mike Bagge (ph 487.9895 or 027.366.9506)

Connecting to a HubI want to encourage you to seriously consider joining a Hub. Hubs are mid-size groups within our church designed to help us get to know each other and grow as followers of Jesus. In any church, and particularly as it gets larger it is very difficult to build significant relationships and friendships unless you are part of some smaller group within the church. Church without this dimension can end up as an increasingly lonely place. Blessings, Bruce

Church Lunch on 18th

A church lunch follows the Annual Celebration Service on the 18th September (two week’s time).

On the menu is a platter of finger foods as well as home baking and fresh fruit.

Do pack along your picnic mats … Just in case the weather is nice enough to eat outside.

An appropriate monetary contribution for your lunch would be much appreciated.

Meet Our Elders.....

Mary Mekhail - We joined DCBC in December 2000. Originally I come from Egypt; I lived in the UK with my family for almost five years before coming to New Zealand. Currently I work part time at the University as eLearning facilitator. I am married to Ardel and we have three children - two have graduated and the youngest is still at university. I have been involved with the Intermediates programme since 2003. Both Ardel and I have been involved with one of the young adult home groups since 2010 and I have been an elder since 2012.

Kim Park -I’ve been a regular at DCBC since 1989. In that time I’ve served in a number of areas from pre-school music to parenting course and most recently as an elder. I am married to Greg and have 4 daughters. Greg is a police officer and the girls range in ages from 9 to 17 years (Lizzy, Bee, Amy and Aria). Originally from Napier in the North Island I came down to Dunedin to study. I now have a teaching role in Sport Science at the Otago Polytechnic.

James Irwin - I have served as an elder since 1995 and I have found worshipping and serving at DCBC one of the greatest blessings I have known in my life. I currently lead the “Way Up” group. I have four adult daughters (three of whom are married), one son, three grandsons and one granddaughter. I have had a varied professional career, training as an electrical engineer, working with the old Post Office for a short time before entering the Baptist ministry.

Blair Donkin - I joined DCBC, or Hanover Street Baptist as it was back then, in 1988. Currently we are involved in prayer, discipleship and pastoral care, and mission leadership teams. Our family enjoys meeting people from all walks of life and we love having the opportunity to offer accommodation to people visiting Dunedin. I am married to Ann and we have four wonderful children (Alana, Samuel, Danielle and Paige). I am a registered nurse and I work in the Dialysis Service with the Southern DHB. I’ve been an elder from 2007.

Andre van Rij - I have served as an elder in DCBC for quite some time now. For a day job I work at the hospital as Professor of Surgery. I am married to Anita and we have five children and ten grandchildren. We host one of the missionary support groups - for Helen Ferguson and I am involved with Servants Health Centre and with the Christian Medical Fellowship of NZ.

Greg Brook - I’ve been part of DCBC since I was a student, well over two decades ago. I have been an elder for the past 2 years and along with my wife, Lesley, we lead one of the regular Hub groups. We have two children, Jonathan (14) and Martin (11). I work at the University Book Shop, where my formal title is Academic Manager, which basically means that I organise textbooks for University and Polytechnic courses.

WHERE DOES THE YA COMMUNITY FIT IN GOD’S PLANS FOR DUNEDIN?

The DCBC YAs are involved in serving in a lot of different areas at DCBC and beyond. Our aim for 2017 is to have one or a few areas that the whole YA community, or a lot of our YAs, can be involved in. We are discussing this before Small Groups on Thursday night

YA LUNCH TODAY: Hosted by the McCabe family; 22 De Lacy St; all YAs are welcome.

VENUE FOR YA THURSDAY NIGHTS - We meet upstairs at the Alhambra Union Rugby Club; on the edge of the North Ground on Great King Street (the one-way heading north); enter from Great King St and go up the stairs.

THIS THURSDAY NIGHT: SMALL GROUPS

- 6pm: Dinner ($2 or a little more if you can afford it) - 7pm: Discussion and decisions about what the whole YA community can do to serve other people in Dunedin in 2017. - 7:30pm: We will divide up and head to Small Groups.

YA VAN:

If you need transport to Church on Sunday morning you can catch a ride in one of the YA Vans. Txt 0212304334 before 9am Sunday to lock it in.
