Student Leadership Process
Congratulations to all the students whose art work was on
display at the Daylesford Show over the weekend. Well done
and thanks go to Nicole Wassell our amazing art teacher
who supported this event. Thanks also go to Evan-Mae,
Sandra, Kerry & Mathew Forbes who assisted with the
event.
Barry Phypers has again assisted the school by completing
some works in the school grounds. Barry has most recently
rebuilt some steps on one of our entrances, this is on the
back of shifting sand and preparing the cricket pitches on the
oval. Thank you Barry your time is very much appreciated.
Thanks also to Sebastian who assisted his grandfather over
the weekend.
‘Be a Good Citizen’ is one of our school values. At assembly
this week I called on everyone within our school community
to consider how they could be a good citizen over the
coming weeks. The school is modelling this in a number of
ways, for example we are giving Christmas gifts to
Daylesford Family Services next week in assembly. I asked
everyone to think about how they could do something for
someone else, without the expectation of reward or
recognition.
Can I reinforce the message that Library Books are now due!
We are extremely fortunate to have such a wonderful
resource in the school, our library. But to maintain the
library resource requires a team effort from all members of
our school community. Please identify if your child has any
overdue books and if so please make it a priority to return
them to school on Monday.
If you have volunteered your time within the school at any
point throughout this year, please consider yourself invited
to our Volunteer’s morning tea next Wednesday 7th
December at 11.00 in our gym. It will be our small way of
saying thanks for your contribution to our beautiful school.
I had the pleasure of interviewing ten grade 5 students who
were shortlisted for the 2017 School Captain position this
week. The students presented so well, the school is indeed
spoilt for choice. It was a very difficult decision. The 2017
School Captains will be announced at the Presentation
Evening next week.
I also had the pleasure of listening to the House & Specialist
Captain speeches this week. Again the students who
nominated did a terrific job. I am so proud of them to have
the courage to nominate. I am also very pleased by the
strong culture of student leadership within the school. This
can certainly be attributed to the current student leaders
and their excellent modelling throughout 2016. I say a BIG
thank you to our School Captains, House Captains and
Specialist Captains, a job well done.

Kitchen Garden Olympics 2016
On Wednesday, November 23rd
the Kitchen garden Olympics were held. The second last event was the wheelbarrow relay. Here are the rules: you must weave the barrow through a line of cones in front of you. Careful you don’t knock your cones over! In the relay blue group came 4
th and
white group 1st.
The third event was blind fold taste testing. You have a blind fold on and the treasures gave you a herb or vegetable and you would guess what it was. The Kitchen garden Olympics is one of the best days of grade three! by Matthew Forbes, 3C
On Wednesday, November 23
rd our class were going to
do our Kitchen Garden Olympics. For our second activity we did the blind folded taste test, and then we had to taste all the different foods. All of them were green foods from the garden. Another activity was ‘Catch a Bug’. We had to try and catch the most bugs (which were on the sheet) in 8 minutes! Our group only caught 2 worms and 1 snail. Our first activity was a hunt to find as many utensils (which were on the sheet) when we only had the clues. Our next activity was the garden wordsearch. We found 13 words in total. Our last activity was trying to find the longest weed root. Lastly we had two races. We had the wheel barrow race first. Our group came first in that race. Lastly we had the potato and fork race and we came a draw with blue group! by Erin Childs 3C

HEALTHY FOOD TIP Homemade muffins can be a great option for the lunchbox or for an after school snack. It is so easy to add some extra fruit or veggies not only for the vitamins and minerals but also for extra fiber which is important to help keep us fuller for longer. This week’s Mini Muesli Muffins fall into the AMBER category of the traffic light system and therefore are a suitable option for the lunchbox! If anyone has any healthy recipes they would like to share in the Daylesford Primary School newsletter please forward them onto [email protected] We would love to hear from you!
MINI MUESLI MUFFINS
Makes: 24 mini muffins Ingredients
• 1½ cups (130g) untoasted muesli
• 1 cup (150g) wholemeal self-raising flour, sifted
• ½ cup (115g) sugar
• 1 large green apple, grated
• 2 medium carrots, grated
• ½ cup (80g) sultanas
• ½ cup (75g) pecans or other nuts, chopped*
• 2 eggs, beaten
• ⅓ cup oil (80mL), canola or light olive
• 1 cup (250mL) milk, reduced fat Method 1. Preheat oven to 190°C. 2. Place muesli, sifted flour, sugar, apple, carrots, sultanas and nuts* into a bowl. Mix together. 3. Spoon mixture into 24 mini muffin cases or place in 2 x 12-hole non-stick mini muffin trays. 6. Bake mini muffins for 30 minutes. Tips
• Mini muffin trays are a great investment for the canteen. Small sized patty cake cases or friand tins are also suitable.
• You can replace the pecans, sultanas and muesli with other varieties of dried fruit, nuts or wholegrain cereals these foods if you don’t have these specific types on hand. Category: Select Carefully (amber) Rheannon Owen, Health Promotion Officer
