Grace in pink is sampling the barbecued Kangaroo steak…very nice too…Elias is deciding what to add to his jaffle next…
Fei is going for the Kangaroo now…Elias is still deciding…too many choices – eggs, bacon, cheese, baked beans and more.
AT THE TWO UP SCHOOL…
A few kilometres outside Kalgoorlie. In the old days it was the childrens’ job to climb the trees and keep a lookout for the police…It is only played on ANZAC Day now, but in the past people have lost all their money homes and families gambling on Two Up…
The ladies of Kalgoorlie got together and insisted Two Up was not played on Pay Day, so they had a chance to get the money they needed for the family
Sharon explains how Two Up is played and its history
The students had some play money to play with…when you lost all your money you had to go and watch from the Loser’s Seats
Shiva flips the two coins to see if it is Heads or Tails or another throw…
Those who choose Tails hold the money until after the throw…
Some of the people on the loser’s seats still have a smile on their faces…
Zaid and Shiva all smiles towards the end of the game…
And the winner is…Peace, all smiles as she holds up her ill gotten gains…
Sharon reminds the students that gambling can become an addiction and that there are very few real winners…as they found out… Two Up can only be play legally on ANZAC Day, where it is a tradition of the diggers…
WEATHER BUREAU
Next we went to the airport and one group visited the Weather Bureau and the other, the Flying Doctor Base…
These thermometers are L shaped and buried in the ground to measure ground temperature
A selection of Children’s toys and games from the period...
There are also some that lift out of tubes in the soil, with wax in the bottom to hold the thermometer centrally…
Codi finds out the hard way that there are prickles on the ground…
Anemometer to check wind speed and a tank to measure evaporation…
Stevenson Screen (white ventilated box) holding the thermometers used to measure Max. and Min. temps…
Rain Gauge…not going to be needed today…
Laser used to bounce beam off cloud and measure its height…
Device for detecting and reporting visibility…measures fog, smoke, etc in the atmosphere
Back in the office, having a talk about how all the weather data is recorded and used…
Outside watching a Weather Balloon inflated automatically with Hydrogen…could have white or orange balloons…
No aircraft around…so we can release the baloon…a bird also enjoying watching on…
The balloon will go up many thousands of metres expanding as it does to the size of a house before exploding and the remainder falling back to earth…
ROYAL FLYING DOCTOR VISIT…
Having a talk before a tour of a flying doctor plane…Mr Sherlock checking out the displays around the room…The Flying Doctor Service is the fourth largest airline in Australia…
The aricraft are $6 000 000 to buy and are then fitted with a million dollars of medical equipment, equivalent to that of an intensive care ward in a hospital…
We got to have a look inside…The last few boys waiting as Sandy has his look…

C Group posing in front of the plane…A & B Groups with Mrs Lavery and Mr Sanderson were having their tour of the Weather Bureau…

Next it was off to Boulder for the Loop Line Tour. Here we are outside the Loop Line Railway Station. It is all undergoing a refurbishment after 10 years out of action, so there is a lot to do…They are hoping it will be running again next year, with the line extended up to the Superpit…

MT CHARLOTTE VISIT
This is where the Perth to Kalgoorlie Pipeline designed by C Y O’Connor ends, flowing into the reservoir on top…
The pipeline heading up the hill to empty its precious liquid into the reservior.
Technology also sits on Mt Charlotte today...
In the old days the water would flow out of the pipeline and into the reservoir here, but today the reservoir is rooved to reduce evaporation…
Posers are Flynn and Jacob…!!
More posers, with the Superpit behind them...Akira gets the Best Poser Award and Bailey the best smile, followed by Grace, with Flynn is a close third…
That is the end everyone…

some talented performers among the group…
