Wand Stroke

• Dry, Wet, Dry• Pre-Vac Stroke (DRY)

– As much as 79% of the soil in most carpeting is dry insoluble soil. – The easiest way to remove these soils is when they are DRY!– By pre-vacuuming the area you are likely to remove the majority of soil

before you even get the floor wet. – The number of pre-vac strokes should be based on the condition of the

carpet, however a minimum of at least 2 strokes is required. – Remember its easier to remove dry soils than clean up mud.

Wand Stroke

• Dry, Wet, Dry• Cleaning Strokes (Wet)

– After the dry soil is removed you must use the trigger on the wand to remove embedded and water soluble soils.

– Start by pulling the trigger as you push the wand forward and when you get to the top of the path immediately bring the wand back.

– As you pull the wand back toward you let go of the trigger and pull the wand another 4-6 inches to pick up any residual solution.

– Continue cleaning strokes until you can no longer see a visible difference from your last stroke, however a minimum of two strokes is required.

Wand Stroke

• Dry, Wet, Dry• Dry Strokes (Dry)

– Even though we are constantly extracting the cleaning solution the goal is to leave the carpet as dry as possible.

– Extended dry times are responsible for the majority of customer complaints we receive. – By performing dry strokes we can drastically cut down on dry times and make happier

customers. – This also aids in removing residual soil from the carpet and creating a safe environment

for the customer. (Slip and Fall)– Performing 2 dry strokes is required and when doing so will allow the carpet to dry in

around 8 hours. Failure to do so could result in the carpet taking upwards of 24 hours.

Grooming

Let’s Be Honest, It’s Pretty Easy

Page 20: Day 15 Training Carpet Series - Steemer-Online · cleaning company to become certified asthma and allergy friendly. • AAFA has recognized that Stanley Steamer's Cleaning Process

Grooming

• Why we do it!– There are many reasons why it MUST be done at every home on

every room of carpet. – The most important being that it is part of the Stanley Steemer

Cleaning Process. – There are two categories when it comes to why we groom carpet.

• Appearance• Function

Page 21: Day 15 Training Carpet Series - Steemer-Online · cleaning company to become certified asthma and allergy friendly. • AAFA has recognized that Stanley Steamer's Cleaning Process

Grooming

• Appearance– Grooming the carpet will give the carpet a lighter appearance.

• Lighter is cleaner!– Removes footprints

• It’s the last thing you should do in a room, grooming will give the room a uniform appearance and remove any footprints.

– Revives traffic patterns• Grooming will help lift matted areas and can help stop the formation of traffic

patterns.

Page 22: Day 15 Training Carpet Series - Steemer-Online · cleaning company to become certified asthma and allergy friendly. • AAFA has recognized that Stanley Steamer's Cleaning Process

Grooming

• Function– Removes Hair

• While cleaning itself will remove hair on the carpet it does not remove all of it. Grooming aids in the removal of hair from the carpet. When the two are paired together, you get the best results!

– Distributes Pre and Post Treatments• Pre-treaments should be worked into the carpet for best results.• ALL post treatments must be groomed into the carpet to ensure full coverage. Failing to do

so WILL result in the product not working effectively. – Inspection

• It gives you one last chance to inspect the carpet before you leave the area. If you notice something, re-clean the area in question.

Page 23: Day 15 Training Carpet Series - Steemer-Online · cleaning company to become certified asthma and allergy friendly. • AAFA has recognized that Stanley Steamer's Cleaning Process

Grooming

• Function– Decreases Dry Time

• Grooming the carpet aerates by lifting and separating the fibers of the carpet. This allows more airflow and will allow the carpet to dry quicker.

• Remember, one of the biggest concerns with our cleaning process is the carpet is wet. Help our customer get back to normal living by grooming every job.

– AAFA• When we performed the AAFA certification testing the carpet was groomed after each

cleaning. It is a part of our cleaning process and must be performed.– Front Door Four

• It’s a part of the Front Door Four, you cant say you follow the FD4 if you don’t Groom.

Page 24: Day 15 Training Carpet Series - Steemer-Online · cleaning company to become certified asthma and allergy friendly. • AAFA has recognized that Stanley Steamer's Cleaning Process
