Day 1 EnglishReading Focus
Every Monday there will be two options of a reading comprehension to choose from. You only need to choose one.
Option 1 is for more reluctant readers where whole texts might feel a little intimidating. Option 2 is for more confident, fluent readers.
These texts can be shared and discussed with your child. If they are a little unsure with the text, try reading and discussing the answers together. This is not necessarily a reading task but more of a comprehension task.
Option 1 – read the explanation
Option 1 – Now answer the questions
Option 2 – read the narrative
Option 2 – now answer the questions
Day 2 EnglishSpelling Focus
Over the last few weeks we have looked at apostrophes for contraction and possession. Today we are going to pull it all together and see if you can identify the two types.
Activity 1: Colour all the apostrophes for possession in red and contractions in blue.
1. They’ve hidden the dog’s bone so that he can’t find it.
2. I’m sleeping at Bella’s house so I’ll need to pack a bag.
3. Susie and John’s cat is up a tree so we’ll need to get it down.
4. It’s going to rain today so I’ll need to get my umbrella and my mum’s coat.
5. You’re going to the park even if she’s not going!
Activity 2: Can you write a speech bubble for each person using an apostrophe for contraction or possession. The first one has been done for you.

Stepping it out time! Today you are going to step out each section of your story.
You can try and include adverbials of time for each new leg of his journey e.g. first, later, next, after that.
Don’t miss this step out as it is a really important stage in the story writing process.
Fancy a twist? How about act out each step in silent or say one word for each step e.g. ‘damp’ for the swamp, ‘hot’ for the desert, ‘yummy’ for the farm.

Last week you created your story map of Sunny’strip around Africa with your new ideas!
Activity: Today you are going to rewrite each step of Sunny’s journey but don’t write the postcards yet. You will just write the basic story. You can try and include adverbials of time for each new leg of his journey e.g. first, later, next, after that as well as days of the week.
See Miss Hutt’s ‘How To’ video to guide you on what this could look like.
