Ahmed Dawood, Group Founder born in Bantva, India.

The Dawood Group is formed which provides the platform for establishment of many diverse businesses in the Group.

1917Ahmed Dawood gets introduced to business basics through working at his grandfather’s shop of cotton yarn and various utilities in Bombay.

1952

Dawood Cotton Mills Limited set up in Karachi.

1947Ahmed Dawood migrated to Pakistan and initiated a number of industrial projects in East and West Pakistan.

After the death of his father, Ahmed Dawood under the supervision of his grandfather establishes his own shop in Bombay.

1954

Burewala Textile Mills Limited established in Punjab.

1954 1960 1967

Lawrencepur Woolen & Textile Mills became operational and produced yarn for hand knotted carpets, blankets for Armed Forces, tweed and worsted fabrics.

Dilon Limited, Pakistan’s first Nylon Yarn Producer, was established in Karachi.

1960

The group establishes Central Insurance Company. The company operated in all major cities of Pakistan and transacted all conventional forms of insurance covers successfully.

1968

Dawood Hercules Chemicals Limited was established as a joint venture between the Dawood Group and Hercules Chemicals Inc. of the USA. It was the first private sector venture in Pakistan to receive a loan by the World Bank.

1961

The Dawood Foundation, a public charity trust started.

Lawrencepur Woolen & Textile Mills saw a revolutionary change as Dawood Group took over the mills. The new management took radical steps to expand and modernize the production facilities.

1971

In East Pakistan, Karnaphuli Paper Mills, Karnaphuli Rayon & Chemicals Limited, Dawood Jute Mills and Dawood Shipping Company were founded.

1971Group investments in East Pakistan were lost with the creation of Bangladesh. The East Pakistan industrial undertakings constituted almost 60% of the Group’s activities.

1974The business enterprise suffers further setbacks as the Government of Pakistan nationalizes a number of large Pakistani industrial undertakings; the Group lost its flagship company, Dawood Petroleum Ltd.

1996 2002

Hussain Dawood is elected Chairman of Dawood Hercules Chemicals Ltd.

2004

Amalgamation of all textile companies of the Dawood group into a single entity named Dawood Lawrencepur Limited.

Hussain Dawood becomes Chairman of Engro Chemical Pakistan Ltd. on 25th April.

Dawood Hercules Chemicals Ltd. becomes Dawood Hercules Corporation Ltd. (DH Corp.), a holding company which focuses on exploring investment opportunities.

Hussain Dawood is the Chairman of Dawood Hercules Corporation Limited. He is alsothe Chairman of Engro Corporation Limited, Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund and The Dawood Foundation.

His social responsibilities include Chairmanship of the International Advisory Council of the Cradle to Cradle Institute in San Francisco, and Karachi Education Initiative’s Karachi School for Business & Leadership. He also serves as a Member of the Government of PakistanEducation Task Force, Director of the Pakistan Business Council, Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy, and Beaconhouse National University, and is a Global Charter Member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE).

He is the Honorary Consul of Italy in Lahore and was conferred the award “Ufficiale Ordine Al merito della Repubblica Italiana” by the Italian Government.

Hussain Dawood is an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, USA, and a graduate in Metallurgy from Sheffield University, UK.

Shahid Hamid Pracha is Chief Executive of Dawood Hercules Corporation Limited and

Chairman of DH Fertilizers Limited, Dawood Lawrencepur Limited, and Tenaga Generasi

Limited. He is also a Director on the Boards of Cyan Limited, Engro Corporation Limited,

Engro Powergen Limited and Engro Powergen Qadirpur Limited. He previously served as

Chief Executive of The Dawood Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Dawood

Hercules Group.

He is a graduate electrical engineer from the University of Salford, UK. Prior to joining the

Dawood Group, he spent a major part of his career with ICI Plc’s Pakistan operations in a

variety of senior roles including a period of international secondment with the parent

company in the UK. He is also a founding member of the Pakistan Society for Human

Resource Managers and previously served as the first CEO of the Karachi Education

Initiative, the sponsoring entity of the Karachi School for Business & Leadership.

Shahid Hamid PrachaChief Executive Officer

Shahid Hamid Pracha is a graduate electrical engineer from the University of Salford, UK. He previously served as Chief Executive of The Dawood Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Dawood Hercules Corporation. Ali Aamir is a Chartered Accountant qualified from The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. Shafiq AhmedGeneral Manager Finance

Shafiq Ahmed joined Dawood Hercules Corporation in 2007 and has worked in various positions, including as Chief Executive Officer of Dawood Lawrencepur Limited and Tenaga Generasi Limited. Prior to joining the Dawood Group, he served in senior management position in Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, and has also been associated with Ford Rhodes Sidat Hyder & Co. Having a flair for textiles, energy and accounting, his career spans over 18 years working with industry leaders and pioneers in these fields. He is a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan and holds a degree in Law from the Karachi University.

DH Fertilizers Limited (DHFL) is a Urea fertilizer manufacturing and marketing concern. It was established in 1968 as a joint venture with Hercules Chemicals Inc. of the USA. The 445,000 tons Urea plant is located in Sheikhupura, Punjab.

DH Fertilizers manufactures and markets Urea under the brand name "Bubber Sher", which has consistently delivered quality and value for more than 35 years, and today it is recognized as a household name for farmers and agriculturists.

Hub Power Company LimitedHub Power Company Limited (HUBCO) is the largest and the first thermal IPP (based on RFO), with an installed capacity of 1,414 megawatts (MW), including its new oil-fired power generating unit of 214MW at Narowal. It also has a subsidiary Laraib Energy Limited, which is constructing the very first private hydel power project with a capacity of 84MW. It commenced commercial operations in March 1997 under Power Policy 1984-85 for electricity generation. The company is listed on all three stock exchanges and its Global Depository Receipts are listed on Luxembourg Stock Exchange. HUBCO has an issued and paid-up capital of PKR 11.57bn. Recently, National Power International Holdings BV (NPIH) decided to offload its entire 17.44% stake in HUBCO. In this connection, DH Corp. and its affiliates collectively offered NPIH to acquire 16.42% stake comprising 190mn shares.

The Dawood FoundationDawood family formed The Dawood Foundation in 1961, one of the largest private charitable trusts in Pakistan today. The foundation has contributed funds for establishing schools, colleges, hospitals, dispensaries, and towards scholarships for students.

Presently, a key project supported by The Dawood Foundation is the Karachi School for Business & Leadership (KSBL). KSBL is a graduate management school, established in Karachi in strategic collaboration with the University of Cambridge, Judge Business School. KSBL will offer world-class education in leadership and business, with focus on ethics, entrepreneurship, innovation, and social responsibility, to the many talented young men and women in Pakistan, as well as international students and corporate executives. The KSBL full-time MBA will commence in September 2012, followed by the Working-Professional MBA in 2014. The Executive Education programs were launched in May 2010, and are being delivered by world-renowned faculty from Cambridge and other international business schools.

The famous Dawood College of Engineering & Technology, Karachi, was established by The Dawood Foundation in 1962 (nationalized in 1971), but continues to function to-date. The Dawood Public School in Karachi, a school donated in Muzaffarabad during the earthquake period, and the Skardu School of Science and Humanities, are some of the other projects undertaken by this Foundation. The Foundation also awards scholarships to talented and deserving students for higher studies. The Dawood Foundation donates regularly to Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Islamabad, a leading charitable hospital. There have also been other significant donations to Beaconhouse University and Lahore University for Management Sciences (LUMS).
