The two movies that I have chosen for comparison essay are Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) and After Earth (2013). Briefly, Dawn took places after the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the apes have gained freedom and their intelligence increased, with a leader, Ceaser who speak human languages. After Earth, on the other hand, took place in the distant future, human civilizations have come into conflict with alien creatures who intended to conquer a new planet, Nova Prime after abandon the earth.

In both movie, human races were nearly extinct due to the environmental cataclysm. In After Earth, humans were unable to adapt and live on earth condition due to the nature phenomena disaster. Human races was forced to abandon Earth and settle on a new planet , Nova Prime. In the Dawn of Planet, Humans civilization has collapsed and destroyed because of the deadly worldwide pandemic, ALZ-113 virus. Over 90% of human population died unconsciously because of mankind disaster.

In addition, human races was endangered due to some fatal factors. In After Earth, human races met their predators, Ursa, blind predatory multi-limbed alien creatures that hunt by sensing pheromones of the human body sxecretes when scared. In order to overbear Ursa, humans had to completely suppress their fear, to become invisible to the Ursa, a technique called "ghosting". However, only extraordinary rangers could achieve this ability. In dawn of planet, only few among of humans were genetically immune to the virus and yet they still had to face the intelligent apes. The deadly virus doesn’t’t kill apes but genetically enhanced their intelligence even speaking ability. Despite the apes ’ leader Ceasar was looking for peace, the others weren't.

Both of the movie can be categorized as survival story. In After Earth, during space flight, their ship was caught by an asteroid shower, forcing them to transport through a wormhole to a safe and crash-land on the now-quarantined Earth. Inside the torn fuselage of the ship, only, Kitai who cypher’s son have to find the way to go back their planet by avoid being killed by the deadly animals (ursa) because Cypher’s leg was broken. In dawn of planet, there’s a scarred bonobo Koba, who hold grudges against humans for his mistreatment. Caesar brings a large group of the apes to the city where he conveys the message that while the apes do not want war but they will fight to defend their home. He then demanded that the humans stay in their territory and stated the apes would stay in theirs too. Ceasar needed to find a solution that make peace between apes and humans.

Both movies are surrounded with the love of father and son. Kitai had to find the main distress signal beacon which damaged. Cypher instructed Kitai to locate the tail section of the ship, which had broken off upon entry to the atmosphere, because there is another distress beacon inside it, which they can use to signal the Rangers for rescue, if he failed, the pair will face death. In Dawn of Planet, Koba secretly set fire on the apes' home, shoot Caesar in the shoulder which caused Caeser to fall from the settlement's main tree. During chaos, Koba took charge over. He planted Carver's cap at the scene of shooting to urge the apes to fight against the humans. Blue eyes tried to safe his father who betrayed by his treacherous advisor Koba trying to kill Caesar saying that he is too weak to become leader. Caesar tried to protect blue eyes but was injured and almost died.

Even though both movies had some common characteristics, but they are unique art pieces. The amazing graphic design, the creativity ideas and more, its create some space to viewer imagine about our future, let’s us more curious what will happen next. Last but not least, both movies are sending the concept of loving earth. Without earth, humans will facing a lot of deadly factors. In my opinion, both movie director are very creative, they created …
