The fun archery sets consist of 1 bow and 3 arrows and a printed target on the pack. It is accurate up to 3 metres but can shoot up to 8 metres. The handle on the fun archery set has been designed to take the fun safety sucker arrow and will not allow pointed arrows to be shot. The further the bow is pulled back the further the arrow will travel. Elevation of the bow is important to allow the natural arc of shooting. The way the ball is pitched differs between softball and baseball. Softball pitchers deliver the ball in an underhand motion and baseball pitchers can throw overhand or even sidearm if they choose. The ball size also differs. A softball measures between

11 and 12 inches circumference and baseball measures between 9 inches in circumference.

The type of bat is also different. A softball bat is commonly made of aluminium although wooden

bats may be used and is no longer than 34 inches, whilst a baseball bat is no longer than 42 inches. For school and college level it can be made of aluminium but at professional level it must be made of wood.

Goalposts of any size including those which are portable must always be anchored securely to the ground or have a weighted back bar. Portable goalposts must be secured as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Nets must be secured by plastic fixings; arrow head shaped plastic hooks or tape and not by metal cup hooks. For guidance on how to choose the right goal posts and nets see page 325.

To conform to European safety standards anchors must be fitted to all goalposts. Our range will simply and safely anchor any post to a wide range of surfaces. A risk assessment should be carried out to determine suitable anchorage methods.The FA and BSI have developed standards for goalposts – BSEN 748 (2004) and BS 8461:2005+A1:209. BS 8462:2005+A2:2012. All our goals are independently tested to

BSEN478 and BSEN8462. Copies of all certificates are supplied with goals. There is no BS/CEN standard for wooden goals and the FA recommends that wooden goals should be replaced with compliant metal, aluminium or UPVC goalposts (this was updated in March 2012).

Sticks are generally in 1 of 3 constructions:

1. Wood – a solid wooden stick will give better ‘feel’ for the ball, useful for beginner players to learn basic skill execution. Reinforcement will create stiffer sticks and help generate more power when hitting. However, if a wooden headed stick is used on abrasive surfaces it will suffer from cracking and splitting over time. Because wooden sticks are not as stiff they also do not transfer as much energy through developing players’ joints.

2. Full Composite - constructed from combinations of fibreglass, carbon and Kevlar, composite sticks are very stiff and offer players the chance to create higher ball speeds. They do not offer players as much ‘feel’ as they are hollow and also will transfer more energy and vibrations directly through players’ joints. However, as the market becomes more fashion oriented composite demand has increased massively. The nature of the material also makes them extremely durable on Astroturf surfaces.

3. Polypropylene Sticks – specifically designed to provide a stick between wood and composite. The solid synthetic head and body gives good levels of ‘feel’, the composite nature of the stick also gives good power levels for hitting, while the nature of the sticks’ construction also makes it extremely durable, especially on hard court surfaces such as playgrounds.

INFOTag Rugby is a safe, non contact, face-paced game suitable for girls, boys and adults of any ability to play together. Teams are generally 7 a side with a preferred mix of at least 3 male and 3 female players playing at one time. The team can choose the gender of the 7th player. Tackling is not allowed and there are no scrums and line-outs. When a tag is made, the tagger stops running, holds the tag above their head and shouts “TAG”. When the ball-carrier is tagged, the ball must be passed to a team mate within 3 seconds.For progression and development Coaches can use Tag Rugby to make players see where space is and encourage evasive running into spaces.
