To the south of the continent a box arrived full of

memories, aromas, sounds, and flavors, brought by

the blizzard of the north. It had the flavour

of sugar cane and tamarind. It smelled like freshly

strained coffee in the morning.

The wise say that it goes by name of Colombia,

a flowery place from where the north wind brings

many surprises, they say it’s called Cuatro, a

small guitar that the “llanero” (cowboy) singer

uses to turn their nostalgia into music. They

narrate the tales of what is known as “Cuatrista”

a mythical northerner character, in charge

of producing the sounds that trigger memories

with only the use of his voice, four strings and a

bitter cedarwood box.

It’s well known that whoever

tried to open this box, will be under the spell

of distant lands, full of memories, aromas,

sounds, and flavors, brought by the blizzard

of the north, this is: Joropo Sur-Viento-Norte

After the first, comes the second, after the second, comes the third, after the third ...

Is the fourth coming?

Since we are little onesas tiny microbes, until we are humongous like elephantswe have questions and doubtsthat are flowing opposite to the most logical, the most logical thing in the adult worldand the most logical in theworld of a child.

Why when the night falls it doesn’tcrush everyone?

Let’s sing, let’s dance, let’s ask and shout for us to understand that with four plastic stringsand some vocal cords we can make music coming from far away very far away, but that is almost the same as the one which we have at the tip of the nose.

ONE TWO THREE…FOUR?

ONE TWO THREE…  FOUR?

If The Cuatro is called Cuatro because It has four strings,

Why is the guitar not called Seis?

The musical proposal of David

Bedoya-Baquero is a invitation to

walk the broad path of the traditional

music from the north of South

America. Colombia, Venezuela and

the Caribbean intertwine. The four

(El Cuatro): Small bitter cedarwood

box tensed and braided with four

nylon strings, has in itself the

magical, overwhelming and spirited

rhythmic of the Colombian-

Venezuelan joropo.

That joropo that has as a stamp,

the Baquiano (a wise man), the

criollo (native), the hat, the llanero

(cowboy) and his horse. The music

of Bedoya-Baquero is the tune, the

humor, the look and the aroma of

distant prairies that carry the smell

of freshly grinded and brewed coffee.

It reminds us of Joropo parties,

Vallenato, Bambuco, Candombe,

Waltz, Samba, Salsa, Merengue

and (Cuban) Son. Sounds that he

carries in his Colombian singer and

“cuatroist” blood. As well inspired by

Argentina, his chosen homeland.

This musical proposal wouldn’t

be complete without the

accompaniment the Bass

Electric in the hands of Argentine

musician Gustavo “Tavo” Centurión,

the maracas and small percussions

of Colombian musician Jhon

Narváez, and the Traverse Flute in

the hands of Argentine musician

Julia Winokur.
