Male Individual: Sean BerriganSport - Swimming
Sean returned from the Eastern Canadian Swimming Championships in Montreal, with two second place finishes in the 50m and 100m backstroke, and a fifth place
finish in the 200m backstroke.
Female Individual: Sarah PolleySport - Swimming
Sarah returned from the Eastern Canadian Championships in Montreal, finishing seventh in 50m backstroke, ninth in 100m backstroke, tenth in 50m butterfly, and twelfth in 50m freestyle. She was Nova Scotia’s top female in the competition.
Team: Allison Surrette - Ali ten HoveSport - Sailing
The sailing duo placed ninth overall and third female team overall at the 2013 Club 420 Mid-Winter championships in Jensen Beach, Florida.
Important note to team sports: you are encouraged to nominate team athletes for this award. Regardless of the team’s finish, an athlete’s performance on that team is eligible. Reminder that Athlete of the Month winners receive a $50 gift certificate from Sport Chek as well as recognition in the media and at the Ricoh Sport Awards.

Marijke (pronounced Mer-IKE-ah) Nel brings over 25 years of tennis experience to the Technical Director role with Tennis Nova Scotia. She was on full scholarship with both the University of Texas and Kansas State University in the late ‘80’s, currently holds her Club Pro 2 certification, and has

Meredith Legge is the new Award Officer at the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. A graduate of Dalhousie (Recreation & Management), her experience includes working as a Social Media Manager with Recreation NS, the Nova Scotia Sea School, and HRM Recreation. She will be focusing on

Anitra Stevens has over 16 years’ experience in sport and recreation management. Prior to joining Athletics Nova Scotia as their Executive Director, she spent ten years in community development and project management, including serving on the leadership team for the Halifax 2011 Canada Games. Her
