  • pg. 14, If we find one thing wrong with another woman, if she doesnt have the perfect nose, or shes not at the perfect weight, we say, Shes not so hot! And were just as hard, or harder, on ourselves. Men give each other more encouragement and support. Their pal might weigh 250 pounds or be coyote ugly, and their buddies will tell him hes a prize (whether they believe it or not).

  • DATA This chart shows some gender differences in the relationship area between men and women. Women seem to be less secure and dismissing when it comes to their attachment style.

  • Moore used interviews as a way to collect her data. She interviewed 200 NYC men and women and from their gathered data on the gender differences in data. Moore seems to know what she is talking about but she didnt go to school for or get her masters in DATING, so her information lacks credibility. Another limitation to her advice is the data was only based on people in NYC which doesnt make it national.

  • What we are comparing.. Gender Differences in Dating and Relationships and Attachment. What the sexes want from dating and relationships.

  • Researchers found many gender differences in dating and relationships. In the article, What Valentine Announcements Reveal about the Romantic Emotions of Men and Women, romantic emotions of men and women were investigated by analyzing the content of 300 Valentines Day announcements. The emotions studied were love, praise, commitment, and fidelity, as expressed by dating and married individuals. Women emphasized love and fidelity relatively more than men did; men emphasized praise and commitment relatively more than women did. Relationship status influenced the gender differences; most interesting is that dating men expressed commitment, but not fidelity. Social-cultural and evolutionary perspectives are considered in the interpretation of the findings. (Quintero Gonzalez & Koestner, 2006)

  • This article does support Moores thoughts in her book. She stresses how men and women want different things. Women want more romance and men date for fun. Gonzalez & Koestner, state how women emphasized love and fidelity relatively more than men did; men emphasized praise and commitment relatively more than women did.

  • Article: Humor styles and relationship satisfaction in dating couples: Perceived versus self-reported humor styles as predictors of satisfaction. Authors: Cann, Arnie/ Davis, Heather B./ Zapata, Christine L. This article discusses a study based on the role humor has in relationships. The article is relevant to Date Like A Man because throughout the book, author Myreah Moore discusses what woman look for in men, and humor is mentioned. In an exercise done by one of Myreahs clients, they had to make a list of wants andneeds for a man. Out of 35 wants, Myreahs client wrote humorous towards the top of her list at number 4!

  • Quotes from the article A good sense of humor is identified as a very highly desired quality in prospective romantic partners, and both men and women appear to share this preference (Buss 1988) What helps a romantic relationship last and remain satisfying over time? In studies of couples who have long-term successful marriages, humor has been consistently mentioned as one characteristic partners believe has contributed to their continued satisfaction (Carstensen, Gottman, and Levenson 1995; Lauer, Lauer, and Kerr 1990; Ziv 1988).

  • This was definitely a cute, quirky book, but we are not sure how accurate it is, especially in todays society. Women are becoming more and more powerful as time goes on. I dont think we necessarily fuss and obsess over dating as we used to. More and more everyday we see women, getting college educations and more. The data in this book is a little old and is somewhat unreliable. Moore isnt a psychologist or doctor, so what makes her know more than any one else on the topic??? For future researchers, there is little information on gender differences in dating. Future research should focus more on the specific differences in men and women and their emotional attitudes towards dating and the opposite sex.

  • Women have always turned to the experts for advice about love, dating, and marriage. In High school we looked for love advice in Seventeen Magazine. Now, and probably for awhile, it will be Cosmopolitan and our friends. Well listen to the advice of relationship gurus who may NOT KNOW ANYTHING, hoping that someday, someone can explain the mystery of LOVE!! From this book and others, I think it is safe to say usually the professionals are as confused as we are. If the puzzle were ever solved, what would we have to talk about with our friends?

  • One thing we learned from this book, BE YOURSELF, if it is meant to be its meant to be!!!!!
