To characterize how locomotor skill is learned (or not learned) during this critical period, we will combine our established protocols using robust, unbiased robotic and sensor technology to longitudinally study infant movement across three consecutive stages during the development of impaired human motor control – early spontaneous movement, prone locomotion (crawling), and upright locomotion (walking).

infancy 1 R01 HD101641-01 (PI) This grant scored impact 33, percentile 18%, and is ‘pending’ status at NICHD. The objectives of this project are to 1) determine the relationship between error rate and the development of reaching skill in infants with typical development, 2) identify individual and environmental factors related to the development of skilled reaching in infants with typical development, 3) identify patterns of concurrent brain activity that differentiate between spontaneous arm movements, early reaching attempts, and skilled reaches in infants with typical development.
