ANNEXURE-IIICATCHMENT YIELD CALCULATIONS BY STRANGE METHOD
Catchment area=20 Acres=0.080 Sq.Kms.(20x0.00158=0.0316 sq. mile)
Nature of Catchment = Avarage50% dependable Rainfall = 32 inchesBased on 30 years rainfall data
ESTIMATION OF YIELD:By referring to Strange’s table of Total monsoon rainfall and estimated
runoff, the yield per square area of catchment is given by
Monsoon Rainfall Yield in M C.ft/Sq.mile
In inches
For 32 inches 15.891 M C.ft/Sq.mile
For 0.022 Sq mile
So yield for 32 inches rainfall per year
=15.891 x 0.0316= 0.502 M C.ft.
CALCULATION OF YIELD BY IN PROJECT SITE AREA BY RATIONAL METHOD
Peak discharge Q = C x I x A where C = weighted
360 impervious factor = 0.60
where I = intensity of rainfall
in mm / hr = 110 mm/hr.
where A = drainage area
in hectares = 20 / 2.7
= 8.10 hectares.
Peak discharge Q = 0.60x 110 x 8.10 = 1.485 cumecs
360
The value of discharge Q as per Ryves’ formula = 1.95 Cumecs
almost nearing to this value, hence discharge worked out is alright.
