Adult Education Program - Spring Semester 2016

Any person in the Palestine ISD and Palestine community over the age of 18 is eligible to attend.

The classes are free.

Adult E ng l ish C lasses Registration Requirements:

Two days to attend the mandatory interview and placement test at High School Library.

The placement test will last about 1 1/2 hours.

The dates for the interview and placement test application will be

Wednesday, January 6 and Thursday, January 7 @ 5:00; 5:30; 6:00; and 6:30 pm.

Students must arrive on time for placement test.

Class Information:

The classes will be from January 19 to May 19, 2016.

Classes will be held on Tues. and Thurs. from 6:00– 8:00 PM.

You must attend a minimum of 75% of the classes to remain in the program.

The cost of the books is $40.00. For parents and siblings of students registered in the PISD-After

School program, the book will be provided at no cost.

GED Prep Classes Registration Requirements:

Two days to attend the mandatory interview and take and entrance exam at High School Library.

The entrance exam will last about 3 hours (three hours).

We invite you to participate in our talks Coffee. Come

meet other parents and you exchange ideas on the issues

presented here. Sing, dance, enjoy a coffee, relax and

participate. It is a space for us parents.

High School-Clases para Estudiantes

Empleado 101- El objetivo del empleado 101 es formar a nuestros estu-diantes para que sean empleados competentes antes de convertirse en asalariados. Las habilidades de comunicación, pensamiento crítico, resolu-ción de problemas, servicio al cliente, ética de trabajo, actitud, sentido de urgencia, de resolución de conflictos, construcción de relaciones y liderazgo son sólo algunos temas que cubriremos mientras están en la vida real, la experiencia práctica de operar el Campo de golf Wildcat . Creemos que la "aplicación inmediata" de una habilidad, una vez enseñada, es la mejor manera de reforzar la conducta aprendida.

Tennis- Los fundamentos del tenis serán observados y practicados in-cluyendo diferentes tipos de golpes de tenis: golpe de derecha, revés, ser-vicio, y el juego en la red. La reglas, la etiqueta, y el espíritu deportivo adec-uado también estarán cubiertos durante esta clase. Únete a un equipo que puede convertirse en una pasión para toda la vida.

Club de Español - Hola Amigos! ¿Te has preguntado qué se siente al viajar a México o España? ¿Qué pasa con los balones de fútbol, guitarras, y som-breros en la cultura hsipana? ¿Alguna vez has querido saber más sobre las tradiciones de piñatas, tamales, la música, el baile, las fiestas del 15 de Sep-tiembre y Cinco de Mayo?, además de toneladas de diversión en español? Entonces únete al Club de Español de Herencia Hispana de para un tener muchas actividades divertidas y aprender sobre la forma de vida hispana. Todos los estudiantes son bienvenidos!

Educación de Conducir - Aprovecha esta oportunidad para completar la parte en línea de la Educación de Conducir. Esta clase te dará acceso a los módulos necesarios para obtener tu permiso y terminar el primer paso para obtener su licencia de conducir. La reunión de padres será el 3 de sep-tiembre. Pregunta a Mrs. Fitzpatrick para más información.

Diseños Creativos- Aprende a pintar como un profesional! Desarrolla tu imaginación y habilidad para fabricar objetos y divertirse. Aprenderás con un enfoque paso a paso para la creación de tu propia pintura original.

Manualidades Cats- Esta clase te dará muchas oportunidades para crear artesanías originales, un tema para cada mes. Conoe el origen de las ar-tesanías y la temporada que representa. Ven a pasar un buen rato y llévate a casa tus propios proyectos!

High School-Student Classes

Employee 101- The goal of Employee 101 is to train our students to be proficient employees before they become an employee. Communica-tion skills, critical thinking, problem solving, customer service, work ethic, attitude, sense of urgency, conflict resolution, relationship building, and leadership are just a few topics we will cover all while giving real-life, hands-on experience operating Wildcat Golf Course. We feel that "instant application" of a soft skill, once taught, is the best way to reinforce learned behavior.

Tennis- The fundamentals of tennis will be observed and practiced includ-ing different tennis strokes; forehand, backhand, serves, and net game. The rules, etiquette, and proper sportsmanship will also be covered during this class. Join a team that can become a passion for a lifetime.

Spanish Club- Hola Amigos! Have you ever wondered what it's like to trav-el to Mexico or Spain? What's up with the soccer balls, guitars, and sombre-ros in Spanish culture? Have you ever wanted to know more about the tra-ditions of piñatas, tamales, music, dancing, Quince and Cinco fiestas, plus tons of more fun in Spanish? Then join the TACE Spanish Heritage Club for plenty of fun activities and learning about the Spanish way of life. All students welcome!

Driver’s Education- Take advantage of this opportunity to complete the on-line portion of Driver’s Education. This class will give you access to the modules needed to obtain your permit and finish the first step in obtaining your driver’s license. Parent Meeting is September 3rd. See Mrs. Fitzpatrick for more information.

Creative Designs- Learn to paint like a pro! Develop your imagination and

crafting skills and have fun. You will learn a step-by-step approach for cre-ating your own original painting.

Crafty Cats- This class will afford you many opportunities to create original

crafts tailored to a theme for each month. Learn the origin of the craft and the season it represents. You will have a great time and take home your own projects!

Todas las personas de Palestine ISD y de la comunidad de Palestine mayores de 18 años, son elegi-

bles para asistir. Las clases son gratis.

Clases de Ing lés para Adu l tos Requisitos de Inscripción:

Asistir 2 días para la entrevista obligatoria y prueba de nivel en la Biblioteca High School.

La duración del examen será de aproximadamente 1 1/2 horas (hora y media).

Las fechas para la entrevista y prueba de nivel serán miércoles 6 y jueves 7 de enero en los

horarios de 5:00, 5:30, 6:00, y 6:30 pm.

Los estudiantes deben llegar a tiempo para la prueba de nivel.

Información de las Clases:

Las clases serán del 19 de Enero al 19 de Mayo de 2016.

Las clases serán los martes y jueves de 6 a 8 PM.

Se requerirá un mínimo de 75% de asistencia para mantenerse en el programa.

El costo de los libros será de $40.00. Para padres de familia y hermanos(as) de estudiantes

inscritos en el Programa PISD-TACE, no se cobrarán los libros.

Club de Química– El club de química ofrece a los estudiantes la oportuni-dad única de experimentar la química más allá del salon de clase. Los estu-diantes planean y disfrutan de la química -enfocado en una variedad de actividades, incluyendo experimentos, oradores invitados, excursiones, y manifestaciones escénicas en presentaciones de química. Los estudiantes experimentan y aprenden acerca de las carreras de química, y entienden mejor cómo la química juega un papel en su vida cotidiana. Las actividades también incluirán ayudar a limpiar el medio ambiente a través de proyectos comunitarios. El club de química motiva y alienta a los estudiantes de High School para explorar las diversas maneras en que la química se conecta a su mundo a través de la diversion, realidad, y manejo - son oportunidades para los miembros.

Club de Debate - El club de debate permitirá a los estudiantes interesados en el debate la oportunidad de observar debatientes y oradores sobre di-versos temas y luego desarrollar sus propios casos afirmativos y negativos. Las competiciones de debate incluyen tanto el Cruz -Examen como el de-bate Lincoln Douglas. Debate extemporáneo informativo y el debate ex-temporáneo persuasivo dará comienzo estudiantes practicar en investi-gación y técnicas de expresión oral. Los estudiantes viajarán a reuniones y competiciones en la zona para perfeccionar sus habilidades. Los temas de este año son muy relevantes a temas de actualidad para el cuidado de la salud y la vigilancia doméstica.

Robótica- Estamos tratando de educar a los estudiantes en el campo de la carrera de la Robótica e Ingeniería. Nuestro programa está diseñado para ayudar a los estudiantes a desarrollar el nivel de pensamiento elevado en el mundo real de la robótica. Los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de de-sarrollar habilidades de trabajo en equipo, la programación y el desarrollo de la robótica. Este programa los impulsará a explorar áreas de la ingeniería mecánica, mientras se preparan para la universidad y más allá.

Pláticas de Café - Ven a tomar una taza de café en nosotros! Este grupo se sentará a tomar un café y hablar de algunos de los temas de mayor actuali-dad que hoy suceden en todo el mundo. Toma a un grupo de amigos, una taza de café y relájarate y disfruta de las conversaciones mientras estamos tratando de despertar para un gran día de aprendizaje!

Chem Club- Chemistry Club provides students with unique opportunities to experience chemistry beyond the classroom. Students plan and enjoy a variety of chemistry-focused activities, including experiments, guest speak-ers, field trips, and performing demonstrations at chemistry circus presen-tations. Students will experiment and learn about chemistry careers, and better understand how chemistry plays a role in their everyday lives. Activi-ties will also include helping to clean the environment through community projects. Chem Club motivates and encourages high school students to explore the many ways that chemistry connects to their world through fun, authentic, and hands-on opportunities for members.

Debate Club- Debate club will allow students interested in debate the op-portunity to observe debaters and speakers on various topics and then develop their own affirmative and negative cases. The speaking competi-tions include both Cross-Examination and Lincoln Douglas debate. Extem-poraneous Informative Speaking and Extemporaneous Persuasive Speaking will give beginning students practice in research and speaking techniques. Students will travel to meets and competitions in the area to perfect their skills. The topics for this year are very relevant to current issues for health care and domestic surveillance.

Robotics- We are striving to educate students in the career field of Robotics and Engineering. Our program is designed to help students develop high level thinking in the real world of Robotics. Students will have the oppor-tunity to develop team working skills, robotic programming and building. This program will push them to explore areas of mechanical engineering as they prepare for college and beyond.

Coffee Talk- Come and have a cup of coffee on us! This group will sit and have coffee and discuss some of today’s most current topics happening around the world. Grab a group of your friends, a cup of coffee, and relax and enjoy conversations while trying to wake for a great day of learning!

Student Classes

Academics– Students will have an opportunity to

do their homework and read individually to

the teacher. They will have literacy sta-

tions available to support the skills being taught in

the classroom. They will also do a variety of games to

master the sight words.

Basketball– Beginning basketball skills will be taught

by the district PE Coordinator. The skills will be developmen-

tally appropriate for this age group.

Science with the Alphabet– Students will do a variety of

experiments correlates with letters in the alphabet. The

hands on tactile learning will allow the students to learn and

comprehend the letter and sounds.

Building and Beyond– Taking math to a higher step by incor-

porating math skills as beginning.

Physical Fitness– Students will be taught different breath-

ing techniques and stretches. Students will have an under-

standing of simple fitness techniques that are age appropri-

ate.

Recycled Art– Students will use a variety of recycled items

to create their own masterpiece.

Recycling in our Neighborhood– Students will gain an un-

derstanding of what recycling is and why it’s important.

The Students will develop a recycling program for

Northside Primary.

La hora de la mañana - Durante nuestros estudiantes horas de la mañana son capaces de completar la tarea, el trabajo en muchas de las materias principales para recibir ayuda y comprensión adicional.

Asistencia con la tarea - Estudiantes recibirán asistencia con la tarea en el salon de clases. El ambiente de grupo pequeño dará a los estudiantes la oportunidad de recibir ayuda más individualizada en áreas con las que pu-dieran luchar durante el día regular de la escuela.

CLASES DE LECTURA

Escritura de Ensayos - La clase será un taller de redacción de ensayos para aquellos estudiantes que quieren ser capaces de escribir mejores ensayos. Está diseñado para enseñar, en profundidad, los puntos más finos de la redacción de ensayos. Habilidades de pre-escritura y utilizar organizadores gráficos para desarrollar el ensayo, serán practicados. Los estudiantes en-tenderán cómo escribir ideas fuertes de control, declaraciones de gancho, y presentar las ideas, pensativo. Los estudiantes también practicarán las ha-bilidades que se usan para escribir oraciones completas que son variadas y bien controlada. Estas habilidades serán más útiles para los estudiantes que necesitan tener éxito en las pruebas de Inglés I e Inglés II STAAR.

CLASES DE MATEMÁTICAS

El Equipo de los Números- El tiempo para los estudiantes en las clases de Matemáticas de TACE de High School se ha ampliado de para trabajar en proyectos, explorar las matemáticas más profundo, e informalmente realiz-ar experimentos que involucran las matemáticas que están aprendiendo en clase. Los estudiantes asisten a TACE por varias razones, entre ellas; ayuda adicional con la tarea, ampliación de la información aprendida en clase, salir adelante para presentarse en el Nivel Avanzado III en su EOC, y prepar-ación de la prueba de TSI/SAT/ACT. Los estudiantes de PHS disfrutan el tiempo para aprender en un ambiente que se crea para ayudar a todos los estudiantes en todos los niveles. Los Estudiantes de PHS han aumentado los porcentajes de pase del EOC, así como incrementar la calificación en el nivel superior en su EOC. TACE da a los estudiantes la oportunidad de tener tiempo de instrucción adicional alrededor de sus horarios con varias op-ciones de disponibilidad.

The Morning Hour- During our morning hour students are able to complete homework, work in many of the core subject areas to receive extra help and understanding.

Homework Assistance for CORE Subjects- Students will receive assistance with classroom homework. Small group environment will give students an opportunity to receive more individualized help in areas that they might struggle with during the regular school day.

READING CLASSES

Essay Writing- The class will be an essay writing workshop for those stu-dents who want to be able to write better essays. It will be designed to teach, in depth, the finer points of writing essays. Prewriting skills and using graphic organizers to develop the essay will be practiced. Students will un-derstand how to write strong controlling ideas, hook statements, and to present ideas thoughtfully. Students also will practice the skills used to write complete sentences that are varied and well controlled. These skills will be most useful for students who need to be successful on the English I and English II STAAR tests.

MATH CLASSES

The Number Crew- Students in High School Math TACE classes have ex-tended time to work on projects, explore mathematics deeper, and infor-mally perform experiments that involve the mathematics they are learning in class. Students attend TACE for several reasons including; extra home-work help, extension of information learned in class, get ahead to perform at the Advanced Level III on their EOC, and test prep for TSI/SAT/ACT. PHS students enjoy the time to learn in an environment that is created to help all students at all levels. PHS students have increased EOC passing rates as well as increasing the number who score at the top level on their EOC. TACE gives students the opportunity to have extra instruction time around their schedules with several availability options.

Student Classes

Brick Lab– The students will use the math

knowledge they have acquired to create a variety

of structures. This will be a junior archi-

tect group. They will be encouraged to create some-

thing within the community by counting, measuring,

predicting, etc.

Scientific Experiments– Students will have an oppor-

tunity to a variety of hands on experiments that will use the

five sense. The students will develop the ability to ask ques-

tions and seek answers in classroom investigations using ob-

servations, data collection, description, pictures and communi-

cation..

Math and Literature Connections– Students will use read

aloud stories to make a connection to math through a variety

of activities.

Expanding Beyond the iPad Games– Students will begin to

understand how to use simple technology beyond the use

games such as writing and photography.

Reciclando en Nuestro Vecindario– Los estu-

diantes obtendrán una comprensión de lo que es el

reciclaje y por qué es importante. Los estu-

diantes desarrollarán un programa de reciclaje para la

Primaria de Northside.

Laboratorio de Ladrillos– Los estudiantes utilizarán

los conocimientos de matemáticas que han adquirido para

crear una variedad de estructuras. Este será un grupo ar-

quitecto junior. Se les anima a crear algo dentro de la comuni-

dad por contar, medir, predecir, etc.

Experimentos Científicos– Los estudiantes tendrán la opor-

tunidad de una variedad de manos en los experimentos que

Artes Teatrales (Teatro)

Theater Arts

This class is offered to learners who are new to theater and want to learn basic theatrical skills. Students will study the cultural contribution of theater, its structure, the play, and its performance. Students will apply skills through various performances.

Cosmetology

This class offers an introduction to the basic manipulative skills in mani-curing, professional image and conduct and personal hygiene. Cos-metology includes basic sciences in bacteriology, sanitation and physiol-ogy pertaining to the head, face, hands and arms. Theory and use of electricity and light as applied to cosmetology.

Coffee Talk

Come and have a cup of coffee on us! This group will gather to discuss some of today’s most current topics happening around the world.

Crafty Creations

This class offers a variety of ways for students to demonstrate their ar-tistic side. Students will learn sewing, embroidery, graphic design, painting and much more!

Collectibles

Learning the history and value of vintage comic books and other col-lectible items is at the top of the list for this class.. Collectibles will in-corporate real world examples that enhance historical knowledge and mathematic skills.

Dance

Students will learn various dance styles as well as choreographed danc-es. Dance class emphasizes teamwork, creativity, healthy habits and social skills.

Student Classes

The Morning Hour-During our morning hour students are able to

complete homework, work on iStation, iPads, and participant in liter-

acy and math stations in order to jump start their brains for a day

full of learning in their regular classrooms.

Homework Assistance- Students will receive assistance with class-

room homework. Small group environment will give students an op-

portunity to receive more individualized help in areas that they

Reading Classes

The “Real” Story- Students will be engaged in aca-

demic learning that will be geared towards non- fic-

tion text focusing on main idea, sequencing, and sum-

mary. In this small group setting, students will engage

and explore non-fiction text in order to obtain infor-

mation and effectively discuss answers and information about these

types of stories. Hands-on activities, foldables, and anchor charts

will engage your students in this class and help to better prepare

them for reading assessments.

Bilingual/ESL Reading– Students will be reading books in Spanish

and English and working with vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency.

Students will also be able to engage in the AR reading program as

well as I-Station during this time.

Expository Explorers- Students will actively research, or explore,

informational and expository texts. This class will focus on text fea-

tures and what they mean and why they are used in non-fiction

texts. Students will use graphic organizers, foldables, and small

projects to explore the different uses of text features within the

stories and how they provide evidence from text to support their

understanding and questions that are asked.

Yearbook/Photography/Journalism

This course is designed to teach the skills necessary to produce the school yearbook, which offers a complete record of an entire school year. Students will study magazine journalism including layout and de-sign techniques, writing and editing copy, headlines and picture cap-tions. This course provides the study of and practice in gathering and analyzing information, interviewing, note taking and photography. Stu-dents will learn strategies of planning, marketing (ad sales) and distribu-tion of the yearbook. Students will learn proofing strategies and work independently with photographers. Students will learn good work hab-its and are responsible for all phases of yearbook publication.

STEM/Robotics

The goal of this class is to provide a challenging learning environment in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, which maximizes indi-vidual potential and ensures students are well-equipped to meet the challenges in the world around them.

Construction Science

This class combines Science, Engineering and Math to provide hands-on, real world experience in creating projects with various materials.

Student Classes

Perfectly Poetic- This class will be studying poetry and its compo-

nents. Your child will read numerous poems and even create some of

their own. Poetry increases vocabulary and language and your stu-

dent will have fun while doing it!

Reading Detectives- Students will read while searching

for the author's purpose. Every story has a reason for

being written. Here, we will meet the challenge of discov-

ering the “why” of our stories. We will consider the au-

thor's purpose a mystery to be solved. Even if our story

is a mystery type- we will have a double mystery! Not only will we

read for meaning, information, leisure, and enjoyment, but now we

have another ‘purpose of our own’ for the text. Students will also

explore text structure and elements of a story.

Math Classes

Measure This Investigations- One effective way to promote chil-

dren’s interest in math is to teach them about forensics. Forensics

involves the collection and presentation of scientific evi-

dence. Measuring length, perimeter and area are vital in

understanding simple ways of life, such as the height for a

tent, perimeter for a fence, and the area in which we live in.

All these skills can help determine the evidence gathered from a

collection of tools or materials are indeed measured through every-

day CSI Investigations!

Graphing is Great!- In this class, we will be exploring place value and

integrating pictographs and bar graphs into our lessons. Place

value in an extremely important concept for children to un-

derstand. Students will be taught how to find the value of

each digit in a number, and be able to break that number

down to really understand what it is. We will use hands-on

activities and manipulatives to further our knowledge in this skill. We

will also create bar graphs and pictographs to display data. Students at

this age will begin using a “key” in their pictographs and have to deter-

mine the value of each picture in the graph. Students will also learn how

to determine values in bar graphs and find missing information.

Laboratory investigations which include the use of scientific inquiry, research, measurement, problem solving, laboratory apparatus and technologies, experimental procedures, and safety procedures are in integral part of this class.

Master Minds Mathematicians

This class is an opportunity for students to interact and discuss mathe-matical problems with teachers and peers. Students will receive guid-ance and support with problem solving and equations involving mathe-matical concepts.

Wildcat Historians

The history club’s aim is to provide students with a love of history, a fun way to further their education and knowledge of history through de-bates, re-enactments, videos, text-based discussions, and much more.

Academic Classes




Perfectamente Poético- Esta clase va a estudiar la poesía y sus

Smartboard Smarties- Technology in the third grade classroom

can provide a rich, entertaining range of learning opportunities that

engage young minds and get them excited about all aspects of the

curriculum. Your child will use technological tools to enhance his or

her understanding of Mathematics and the world around them.

Math Maniacs- These math maniac’s students will be using

real objects, manipulatives, technology, and techniques such

as mental math, and estimation and number sense to solve

problems arising in everyday life, society and the work place.

The students will be solving problems by collecting, organiz-

ing, displaying, and interpreting data in several different for-

mats such as pictographs and bars graphs.

Enrichment Classes

Cooking 101- Students explore everything there is to

learn about reading and following recipes, measuring and

dividing food, and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle

with what they eat. Students will create a cooking pro-

ject during each class with a hands-on activity in which

reading, math, and health are combined together for one awesome

class!

Movement- Movement class will strengthen student’s psychomotor

learning in a play environment. It will also engage students within an

exploration setting to promote health, encourage exercises that will

keep a body fit, and educate students in healthy heart living. Stu-

dents participant in many different activities including Yoga, Zumba,

Soccer, Basketball, Thunderball, Wammiball, Badminton, and many

other organized activities.





Mayor Oportunidad de Aprendizaje (ELO)

Los estudiantes recibirán ayuda con la tarea en el aula. El ambiente de grupo pequeño dará a los estudiantes la oportunidad de recibir ayuda más individualizada en áreas que pudieran luchar durante el día regular de la escuela.

LOS CEROS NO ESTÁN PERMITIDOS (ZAP)

El programa ZAP permite a los estudiantes para completar las tareas faltantes o incompletos con el fin de no recibir un cero. Todos los estu-diantes tienen éxito porque el fracaso no es una opción en PJHS!

Preparación para la Universidad

La clase de Preparación de ACT está diseñada para familiarizar a los es-tudiantes con la prueba requerida de admisión por muchas univer-sidades. Estudiantes bien preparados son más propensos a puntuar más alto en el ACT, lo que puede aumentar sus posibilidades de recibir becas y les permitirá tener más opciones a la hora de seleccionar una univer-sidad. Los estudiantes aprenderán estrategias para tomar exámenes, revisar Inglés, matemáticas, y el contenido de la ciencia, tomar exámenes de práctica y descubrir maneras de reducir la ansiedad de la prueba.

Periodismo de Radio y Televisión

Los estudiantes proporcionarán las noticias del campus a través de transmisiones interactivas. Los estudiantes escribirán guiones, películas, editar y producir obras de teatro originales, destacar el acontecer diario del campus de Junior High.

Clase Bilingüe/Inglés como Segunda Lengua

El programa de Educación Bilingüe/Inglés como Segunda Lengua está diseñado para los hablantes no nativos de inglés que tienen dificultad con el Inglés escrito o hablado. El programa ofrece un programa educa-tivo para la enseñanza del idioma apropiado para ayudar a los estu-diantes a tener éxito en las materias académicas y aprender Inglés.

Extended Learning Opportunity (ELO)

Students will receive assistance with classroom homework. Small group environment will give students an opportunity to receive more individu-alized help in areas that they might struggle with during the regular school day.

ZEROES ARE NOT PERMITTED (ZAP)

The ZAP program allows students to complete missing or incomplete assignments in order to not receive a zero. All students will succeed because Failure is not an option at PJHS!

College Prep

The ACT Prep class is designed to familiarize students with the test re-quired for admission by many universities. Well-prepared students are more likely to score higher on the ACT, which may increase their chanc-es of receiving scholarships and enable them to have more options when selecting a college. Students will learn test-taking strategies, re-view English, math, and science content, take practice tests and discov-er ways to reduce test anxiety.

Broadcast Journalism

Students will provide the campus news through interactive broadcasts. Students will write scripts, edit film and produce original skits to empha-size daily happenings for the Junior High campus.

ESL/Bilingual Class

The ESL/Bilingual Education program is designed for non-native English speakers who have difficulty with written or spoken English. The pro-gram provides an appropriate language instruction educational program to help students succeed in academic subjects and learn English.

Smartboard Smarties– La tecnología en la clase de tercera grado puede

proporcionar una rica y entretenida gama de oportunidades de aprendiza-

Matemático Maniacos– Los estudiantes de matemático manía-

cos van a utilizar objetos reales, manipulativos, la tecnología y

las técnicas tales como el cálculo mental y de estimación y el

sentido de los números para resolver los problemas que surgen

en la vida cotidiana, la sociedad y el lugar de trabajo. Los estu-

diantes estarán resolviendo problemas mediante la recopilación,

organización, presentando e interpretando datos en varios for-

matos diferentes, como pictografías y gráficos de barras.


Cocinar 101- Los estudiantes explorerán todo lo que hay

que aprender acerca de la lectura y seguir recetas, medir

y dividir los alimentos, y cómo mantener un estilo de vida

saludable con lo que comen. Los estudiantes crearán un

proyecto de cocina durante cada clase con una actividad

práctica en la que se combinan la lectura, las matemát-

icas y la salud juntos para una clase impresionante!

Movimiento– La clase de movimiento fortalecerá el aprendizaje psicomo-

tor de los estudiantes en un ambiente de juego. También para involucrar

a los estudiantes dentro de un entorno de exploración para promover la

salud, fomentar ejercicios que mantendrán un cuerpo en forma, y educar

a los estudiantes en la vida saludable para el corazón.Los estudiantes

participantes en muchas actividades diferentes, incluyendo Yoga, Zumba,

Fútbol, Baloncesto, Thunderball, Wammiball, Bádminton, y muchas otras

actividades organizadas.

iPads/iStation/AR/Moby Max- This class will be using technology

to help us learn more about each subject in a fun way. Integrating

technology and hands-on activities in order to take a new approach

to learn reading, math, science, and social studies is our goal! Step

into a world where learning these subjects in a different way brings

each subject to life!

Problem Solving & Energy- In this class students will study problem

solving and reasoning using hands-on engineering activities. We will

be problem solving and building reasoning skills. These activities will

include such things as robotics, electrical circuits, constructing

structures, brain teasers, and magnetics. This will be an energy ac-

tion packed hour full of discovery!

iPads/iStation/AR/Moby Max- Esta clase va a utilizar la tecnología para

ayudar a aprender más acerca de cada tema de una manera divertida. La

integración de la tecnología y las actividades prácticas con el fin de

adoptar un nuevo enfoque para aprender lectura, matemáticas, ciencias y

estudios sociales es nuestro objetivo! Entra en un mundo en el que el

aprendizaje de estos temas de una manera diferente trae cada materia a

la vida!

Resolución de Problemas y Energía- En esta clase los estudiantes

estudiarán la resolución de problemas y el razonamiento mediante

actividades prácticas de ingeniería. Estaremos de resolución y el

desarrollo de habilidades de razonamiento de problemas. Estas ac-

tividades incluirán cosas tales como la robótica, circuitos eléctricos,

estructuras constructivas, enigmas, y magnetismo. Esta será una

acción llena de energía hora de descubrimiento!

PPE is a program Southside will be implementing to help bridge the connection between school, home/families, and community. PPE’s mission is to be proactive in providing all community parents with sup-port, parenting skills and resources in their efforts to rear responsible, self-confident, mentally healthy chil-dren who will be able to function to the best of their ability in their personal lives, their educational oppor-tunities and as contributing members in today's com-plex society.

Robótica- Esta actividad ofrece oportunidades a los estudiantes para desarrollar/adquirir habilidades magistrales y conceptos para ayudar en el aprendizaje de la ciencia, las matemáticas y la tecnología a través de proyectos innovadores y competencias de robótica, al tiempo que ob-tienen valiosas habilidades para el empleo y la vida.

Coser- Esta actividad ofrece la oportunidad de aprender a coser a mano y con máquina de coser haciendo proyectos divertidos, ayudando a de-sarrollar destreza de los dedos y los valores de la paciencia y la práctica al tiempo que refuerza las habilidades de lectura y matemáticas.

Futbol- Esta actividad proporciona oportunidades para la adquisición de conocimientos y habilidades para las formas de movimiento en el fútbol, el desarrollo de la aptitud, el aprecio por el trabajo en equipo y el juego limpio al tiempo que refuerza el concepto de actividad física en un estilo de vida más allá de la escuela secundaria.

Anuario- Esta actividad proporciona oportunidades para que los estu-diantes usan habilidades de relaciones humanas para lograr objetivos comunes y cumplir con los plazos, aprender habilidades comerciales en equipo, la escritura, la fotografía, la contabilidad y la autoedición.

Nota: El futbol será añadido a finales de primavera, así como cualesquiera otras actividades de enriquecimiento como el béisbol/softbol que pueden tomar el lugar de alguna de las actividades mencionadas anteriormente.

Robotics—This activity provides opportunities for students to develop/acquire master skills and concepts to aid in learning science, math and technology through innovative projects and robotics competitions, while gaining valuable employment and life skills.

Sewing—This activity provides opportunities to learn how to sew by hand and sewing machine making fun projects, helping develop finger dexterity and values of patience and practice while reinforcing reading and math skills.

Soccer— This activity provides opportunities for acquiring knowledge and skills for movement forms in soccer, developing fitness, apprecia-tion for team work and fair play while reinforcing the concept of physi-cal activity in a lifestyle beyond high school.

Yearbook—This activity provides opportunities for students to use hu-man relation skills to achieve common goals and meet deadlines, learn marketable skills in computer, writing, photography, bookkeeping and desktop publishing.

Legos Simple Machines—This activity provides opportunities for stu-dents to investigate and understand the operation of simple machines found in everyday life—gears, wheels and axles, levers and pulleys, fol-lowing a design brief as part of the engineering design process.

Minecraft-- This activity is a video game that provides opportunities involving creative and building aspects that enable players to build con-structions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. The gameplay mode of survival Includes exploration, resource gather-ing, and crafting where the player must acquire resources to build the world and maintain health.

Cocinar- Esta actividad proporciona oportunidades para que los estu-diantes aprendan a cocinar seguros, técnicas de cocina y recetas al tiempo que refuerzan las habilidades de lectura y matemáticas.

Máquinas Legos - Esta simple actividad ofrece oportunidades a los estu-diantes de investigar y entender el funcionamiento de máquinas simples que se encuentran en la vida cotidiana-engranajes, ruedas y ejes, palan-cas y poleas, siguiendo instrucciones de diseño como parte del proceso de diseño de ingeniería.

Minecraft- Esta actividad es un juego de vídeo que ofrece oportuni-dades que involucran aspectos creativos y de construcción que per-miten a los jugadores crear construcciones fuera de cubos de textura en un mundo procesal generada 3D. El modo de juego de supervivencia incluye exploración, recolección de recursos, y artesanía, donde el juga-dor debe adquirir recursos para construir el mundo y mantener la salud.
