PrefaceThis book provides an introduction to the concepts of Database Management System for second year engineering students of Computers and Information Technology. It is written considering the syllabus of Mumbai University, laying emphasis on E-R Model, Relational Algebra, SQL queries, Integrity, Security, Database design, Transaction man-agement, Query processing and PL/SQL.
Database is an integral part required to understand the backend of any technology. It is among the core technical subjects for the students of Computer and Information Technology, which would not only help them for placements but also in the industry to further work on any platform. Thus, writing a book on a subject whose concepts and tools are continuously evolving with the industry needs was a great challenge. The book is self-contained. The chapters are written in a very simple language with a lot of example and exercises. The book also contains large number of figures and tables to explain the concepts in a better way. The book fills the gap between theoretical learn-ing and practical implementation of concepts of databases for IT Professionals and Engineers.
We have tried to the best of our level for imparting knowledge and for the further improvement of book, your comments and suggestions will always be welcomed.
We express our gratitude to Dr. Vinayak Bharadi, Dr. Kamal Shah, Prof. Nazneen Ansari for inspiring us to write this book.
We wish to thank our friends and colleagues for invaluable suggestions and criti-cal review of the book. We also wish to express our gratitude to the staff of the Vikas Publishing House Pvt. Ltd, especially Nilabhra L. Poddar, for their helpful cooperation.
