Our data center in Hammarby Sjöstad is built to eliminate external threats to IT operations – management of servers, systems and applications. We have designed, built and operate a facility where the risks of theft, fire, water dam-age and sabotage are minimized, and the availability of continuous power supply is assured. Your servers are secured from power outages, lightning, voltage f luctua-tions as well as from summer heat.

This is a technical description of how we created an opera-tional environment which meets our extremely high standards. Our demands on operations secure your infor-mation and your access to it.

When we built the data center we wanted to create some-thing that more than fulfilled the most demanding market requirements. We still have the same ambition, which is why we continuously work with improving the facility.

· Electrical system without single point of failure, with separate power sys-tems (2N) independent of the grid supplier all the way up to the customer’s servers. If one of the systems goes down, the other will take over the load.

· All racks can handle loads of 6 kW A+B power.

· Non-complex and logical system structure minimizes the potential for man-agement errors.

· Electrical arc flash sensors are installed in power centrals for maximum protection.

· Technical equipment rooms for A and B systems are physically separated in different fire zones.

U P S

· Our online UPS systems provide un-interruptible power for the critical load. Power fluctuations are pre-vented as the UPS delivers exact voltage with a perfect sine wave.

· The UPS protects against sever-al different power distribution problems, for example transients during thunderstorms.

· During a power outage, the UPS draw power from the batteries. After 20–30 seconds, the emer-gency genset has started and provides power to the UPS.

· The batteries provide 10 minutes of runtime at full load. They are located in separate fire zones.

· All PDUs in the rack are protected by separate UPSs.

· Pumps and fans in the cooling sys-tem which are critical to operation are protected with UPS.

· Each rack has an even number of power distribution units, PDUs, which are divided into A and B power respectively. Each side of the power supply can manage the entire load.

· 16A (1-phase or 3-phase) PDUs.

· Different types of PDUs: Metered: Remote monitoring of connected loads in realtime. Switched: Load measurement com-bined with outlet on/off switching. Automatic Transfer Switch: For equipment with a single power supply unit (PSU). This is a supple-ment that increases availability as the server is connected to a dual power feed.

· Ceramic fuses instead of automat-ic circuit breakers: - Higher breaking capacity. - Quick-acting: 10 times faster, giv-ing the servers better protection. - Good at handeling startup loads. - Reliable: No problems with se-lectivity, no maintenance needs. - An expired fuse is replaced with a new one.

· All racks are equipped with at least two PDUs delivering A and B feed to the load.

· Dual electrical power feeds (2N redundancy).

· No use of SF6-gas for switching and insulation (green switching). Busbars are epoxy-insulated and arc fault safe.

· Transformers with extra-low losses.

· Flexible design. Switchgears can be expanded as the load requires. No interruption in operation for the customers.

· Emergency backup genset from Volvo Penta of 620 kVA.

· Gensets are located outdoors.

· Genset starts within 5 seconds of a power outage. Full power is available after 20–30 seconds.

· Fuel sufficient for at least 12 hours of operation with a full load. Gen-set can be fueled while running.

· Gensets are run on a monthly basis. A generator load test re-port is filled out for each genset.

· When returning from an outage, synchronization transfers the load to the mains.

· The facility is designed to provide maximum physical security.

· Due to its high level of security, the facility meets the rules for stringent insurance requirements.

· Shell protection and burglar alarms protect against unautho-rized intrusions.

· The keycard system ensures access only by authorized personnel.

· The fire suppression system protects our customers business critical equipment.

· Everything is co-ordinated in an overall monitoring system.

· Access to the data center is possible 24/7/365 for all customers renting half-a-rack or more.

· Each of the five zones have individual alarms. Customer access is limi-ted to the zone where their racks are located.

· Customers receive indi-vidual access cards with unique alarm codes.

· All events are logged and stored.

· Racks may be equipped with locks.

· Customers in need of larger space and a high-er level of protection are offered a cage or suite (private room) with a separate entrance. Access cards ensure that only the customer and Availo can enter the cage or suit.

· The facility is monitored with cameras.

· Motion sensors in cameras activate video recording and alarms.

· NOC (Network Operation Center) moni-tors the cameras at a remote location.

· Storage of image data is managed pursu-ant to the Swedish Personal Data Protec-tion Act. Physical storage takes place in another of Availo’s data centers. Data is stored for at least 3 months.

· Image information from the monitoring is handled in accordance with the applica-ble laws and ordinances.

· The monitoring system collects and man-ages alarms from the entire infrastructure (switchgear, backup power, UPSs, cool-ing system, security and environment).

· Data from the monitoring system is pre-sented in graphs for continuous trend analysis.

· Temperature sensors are embedded in all parts of the system. Sensors for detection leakage of fluids are placed under all cooling equipment. Other sensors check security and environmental threats.

· Monitoring is managed over IP.

· The monitoring system issues direct warnings to NOC if a problem is detected or a boundary value crossed.

· Walls which are part of the shell protection have 2 milli- meter steel plate shells.

· The facility has intrusion protec-tion rated at protection class 3.

· Technical installations outdoors are non-accessible by unautho-rized personnel.

· To access the data center a camera-surveilled passage that requires keycard identification has to be opened.

· The data center has an ad-vanced alarm system with sen-sors in all rooms and doors, line detectors and motion sensors.

· The burglar alarm is connected to a security company via secure transmissions.

· Security guards patrol the data center at random times after business hours.

· The facility is divided into sepa-rate, completely sealed, fire cells.

· Walls satisfy fire class EI60 (with-stand fire for 60 minutes).

· The steel doors are of class A60, corresponding to the El2 (El) requirements. They are both insu-lating and sealed.

· Cables between fire zones are run through transit frames.

· The seals of the different fire cells have been tested (so-called integrity test) as per NFPA 2001.

· The distance to Katarina Fire Sta-tion is only 3,000 meters.

· The data center is equipped with a HI-FOG fire suppression system: - Sophisticated, highly sensitive, sampling detectors analyze the air. - The system is activated by both smoking and flaming fires. - A fine deionized water mist of very small particles fills the room, which smothers fires without caus-ing damage to equipment.

· The floor in the data center is of calcium sulfate, which won’t ignite.

· Visiors to the data center will not be harmed if the system is activated.

HI -FOG fire suppression system.

· There are a number of fiber suppliers and pathways available – creating both physical and supplier redundancy.

· Connections exist to Skanova’s copper network.

· Fully redundant fiber and copper connections are available from the rack and all the way to the external supplier. Pre-installed cables are in place for quick implementation and high quality.

· Possibility to connect racks with redundant TP and fiber cables.

· Redundant connections to Availo’s IP and MPLS core network.

· Possibility exists for connection of redundant wavelengths, Ethernet con-nections or dark fiber between customer office and the data center.

· Availo has a large global IP network, and peers with a large number of Internet operators (ISPs) at many of the largest global peering points.

· Availo is ranked at the absolute top of Swedish Internet operators by the organizations that assess ISP’s globally.

· Availo offers Internet and VPN connections. Configuration and speed are optimized for the customer’s needs in cooperation between Availo and the customer. Desired speed measured in Gbit and GE is provided directly to our backbone network for the highest availability. No speed limits.
