EMU was reclassified to the second-highest tier of research activity in Carnegie Classification; this new designation applies to only 3 percent of the nation’s colleges and universities.

Eastern has shown significant yearly improvements in its graduation rates.• Four-year rates have increased by nearly 7 percent since 2010 and five-year rates by

8 percent since 2009.• Six-year rates improved to 45 percent for students who were EMU freshmen in

2012, which was an increase of nearly 5 percent from the previous year’s entering cohort.

On November 4th, Eastern, Saint Joseph Mercy Health System and IHA launched a new community health center on the EMU campus which provides primary care and urgent care services to EMU students, staff, faculty and the greater community.

A new program to re-enroll students who stopped attending resulted in a return of 176 students in collaboration with a national organization called ReUP.

Other various major infrastructure improvements completed or ongoing included:• Sill Hall renovation at a cost of $40 million with a completion date set for fall 2020.• Olds Robb/Rec IM $16 million renovation of the third through fifth floors was

completed by fall 2019 and the first and second floors by fall 2020.• Student-Athlete Performance Center is a $20 million project with $12 million funded

through fundraising. This is a two-story structure adjacent to the north end zone of the Rynearson Stadium, which was completed in June 2019.

    • Mark Jefferson Science Complex – Neuroscience and Fermentation Science buildout is a $2.1 million project which involved renovation to the fifth floor of the complex, and was completed by fall 2019.

    • The IT department updated more than 100 classrooms with technology by August 2019.

    • Additional campus security of more fencing, LED lighting and security cameras were all part of the $3.6 million, three-year project which was completed by summer 2019 with more than 900 cameras on campus.

    • Various campus parking and paving projects were completed by summer 2019.
