PrefaceThe V5 CATIA - Sheet Metal Production is a product offering an intuitive and flexible userinterface. It provides
Natively integrated, CATIA - Sheet Metal Production offers the same ease of use and userinterface consistency as all CATIA V5 applications. As a scalable product, CATIA Version 5 Sheet Metal Production can be used in cooperationwith other current or future companion products in the next CATIA generation such as CATIAVersion 5 SheetMetal Design and CATIA Version 5 Generative Drafting. The widest applicationportfolio in the industry is also accessible through interoperability with CATIA Solutions Version4 to enable support of the full product development process from initial concept to product inoperation.

Recognizing WallsThis task shows how to create a Sheet Metal part based on an existing solid.
Open the RecognizeWalls01.CATPart document from the samples directory. This document contains a part created in the Part Design workbench and looking like this:
Click the Walls Recognition icon .1.
Recognizing Walls
file:///E|/WWW/FmoCXR5/Sh1English/sh1ug.doc/src/sh1ugbt0100.htm (1 of 3) [10/3/2000 4:04:36 PM]
Click any face of the part as the reference wall.2.
Walls are automatically generated from thePart Design geometry.
Open the RecognizeWalls02.CATPart document fromthe samples directory. This part contains a filleted CATIA V4 solid presentingdifferent orientations.
Click the Walls Recognition icon .1.
Click any face of the part as the reference wall.2.
Walls and bends, due to the presence offillets in the initial part, are automaticallygenerated.

Using the Bending WizardThis task shows how to automatically create bends onto existing walls.
Open the BendingWizard01.CATPart document from the samples directory.
Click the Bending Wizard icon 1.
The bends are created.
Open the BendingWizard02.CATPart document from the samples directory.
Click the Bending Wizard icon 1.
The bends cannot be created as there is an ambiguity because too manybends would overlap.
The Auto Bend Definition dialog box isdisplayed indicating how manyinconsistencies have been detected, andthe number of walls not yet connectedby a bend (Unconnected walls).
Orphan are wall that are not connectedto any other wall.
Using the Bending Wizard
file:///E|/WWW/FmoCXR5/Sh1English/sh1ug.doc/src/sh1ugbt0200.htm (1 of 2) [10/3/2000 4:04:39 PM]
Explicitly select the bends that should becreated. They are immediately previewed andthe dialog box reflects your selection.
2.
Click OK in the dialog box to create the bends. 3.

Checking OverlappingThis tasks shows how check the overlapping of different areas of the part. This is usuallydone when the part has been designed, bends created and the part is unfolded.Overlapping between areas of the part are highlighted.Open the Overlap01.CATPart document from the samples directory.
Click the Check Overlapping icon .1.
The area with the overlapping ishighlighted in red.
Unfold the part and repeat the check, as itoften is more obvious on an unfolded part.
2.
iClick Apply.A curve is generated. This curve can then be used to create a cutout, for example,to solve the overlapping.
3.
Click OK.4. When no overlapping is detected, a message isissued:
