Established in 1945 by the people of Tezpur, Darrang College was permanently affiliated to Gauhati

The admission policy of 2016 is made different from our previous admissions and aimed to make it more students friendly because it will be based on cut off marks.
As the cut off marks will be declared well ahead of the date of admissions , students can get their preference wise positions and can take admission according to
their choice in the subject or course.
I am forwarding this Prospectus 2016 which covers UG to PG regular programmes and different courses in distance mode and courses offered in the college

The College is conducting Three Year Degree Course in Science, Arts and Commerce streams in Semester mode under Gauhati University.
Admission to T.D.C. is open to those who have passed H.S. or equivalent Examinations of other organizations recognized by the Gauhati
University. The course is divided into two Sections in Arts and Commerce streams. Section A constitutes Major Course and Section B
constitutes General Course. Science Stream has only Section-A and within this Section students are admitted to Major and General Course.

Assamese was introduced in the year 2013,
PG in Zoology was introduced in 2014 and

B.Sc. BIOTECHNOLOGY COURSE
The Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2010. The subject of Biotechnology has been gaining world-wide importance due to
its wide applicability in various fields, viz. research, healthcare, pharmaceutical, environmental perspective etc. The Department was offering
Biotechnology as a general subject in B.Sc. degree courses.
NEW COURSE – B.Sc. in Biotechnology
The Department is now set to start its UG-program of B.Sc. in Biotechnology from the session 2016 in view of current demand. It has well
established laboratory facilities. Guest faculties from nearby Institutes of Higher Learning like Tezpur University, Defence Research Laboratory-
Tezpur, Gauhati University, Institute of Advanced Studies in Science & Technology-Guwahati, shall also be invited to deliver special lectures.

CERTIFICATE COURSE IN COMPUTER APPLICATION
The college provides short term course in computer application to those who have
passed HSLC Examination. Admission forms can be collected from the Computer
Centre of Darrang College. Advertisements for admission are made in time.
CERTIFICATE COURSE IN CONSERVATION ECOLOGY (IN
ASSOCIATION WITH W.W.F. OF INDIA)
The college provides three months certificate course in conservation ecology.
Minimum qualification is Degree in any stream. For form and admission contact
should be made with the Centre for Conservation Studies situated on the second floor
of Bhagawat Prasad Memorial Building of the college.

H.S. / Degree Admission process for the new academic year, 2016 will start immediately after the declaration of HSLC / AHSEC result. Last
date of submission of application form will be announced after the declaration of HSLC / AHSEC result.
Application form along with prospectus can be obtained on payment of Rs. 200 (Rupees Two hundred ) only in cash from the college of-
fice . Application form can also be downloaded from our website (www.darrangcollege.in) from the same date. Downloaded forms must be
submitted with Rs. 200 (Rupees two hundred ) only payable at the cash counter of the college office during admission or through a bank
draft in favour of Principal, Darrang College, payable at SBI, Tezpur branch.
1. Admissions will be strictly on the basis of merit and other board applicants will be standardized according to the SEBA for H.S. and
AHSEC for Degree Course.
2. The College shall admit all the candidates who have percentage that meet the announced cut-off criteria. No first- come first- served policy is permitted.
3. Candidates can apply preference wise for more than one course/subject in separate application form for Major Course as given in the prospectus.
4. A Student can opt for only those subjects in TDC in which he/she has passed in H.S without grace marks.
5. The cut-off list of the candidate for admission will be available in college website / notice boards and candidate must take admission within
the stipulated period after release of the list. Otherwise their seat will be termed cancelled and their admission will not be entitled in the
next cut off list.
6. The candidates who could not take admission in a cut off list could be considered for admission in the immediate next list on the last date
of admission provided seats are available in the course.
7. All Original Documents relevant to the admission procedure must be produced at the time of
Admission.
8. No student will be allowed to take admission in two courses simultaneously.
In case a candidate is found admitted in two courses/ subjects simultaneously,
the admission in both courses/ subjects will be CANCELLED.
9. Incomplete form or forms without documents will be rejected.
10) No forms will be accepted after the last date of submission under any circumstances.
11) Subject combinations cannot be changed after admission.
12) The merit list for ‗Reserved Category‘ will be prepared as per Government Rules.

14) In case the candidate has not studied the subject in + 2 level in which he/she desires to take Major (only in the case of those subjects
which are allowed as per GU regulations), his/her eligibility will be considered on the basis of aggregate percentage.
15) A candidate will have to submit a duly attested photocopy of the mark sheet of the last qualifying examination and caste certificate /
certificate for differently able (wherever applicable) with the application form. No other documents required with the application
form.
16) A candidate must produce the following documents in original at the time of admission
Mark-sheet and Pass Certificate of the last qualifying examination.
Age certificate / HSLC Admit Card.
Certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended, testifying
his/her character.
Caste certificate from competent authority (wherever applicable)

N.B.: Gap certificate must be issued from any one of the

However Candidates having more than three years study gap will not be eligible for admission.
Admission Committee may refuse admission to a candidate whose documents are not genuine or not found to be in proper format.
17) Admission to the College and its Hostel will take place on the same day. Hostel seats are allotted strictly on merit. A student has to make
the necessary payment for the purpose on the same day.
18) All admissions are governed by the College Admission rules. The decision of the admission committee regarding admissions is final.
19) FOR TDC SCIENCE:
Merit position of applying candidates will be determined considering English or MIL/ Alt. English, whichever is higher will be added
with best of three from the rest core subjects excluding Physical Education (PHE).

College Uniform:
College Uniform is compulsory. Students not in proper uniform are not allowed entry to the college.
The uniform will be as follows: For Boys: Black pants (Formal only), sky blue shirt. For Girls: Spun Muga Mekhela and Off white Chadar with maroon
border and Maroon Blouse / Off white Saree with Maroon Blouse / Off white Salwar : Off white Dupatta : Maroon Kameez (knee-length). Maroon
Sweater and Black shoes/sandals are common to both boys and girls.
Identity Card:
Every bonafide student will be issued College identity card at the time of admission.
Reservation:
The College follows the Government Reservation rules.
Cancellation of seats:
Students found absent for a period of 15 days at a stretch after admission without intimation to the authority will forfeit their seats. Besides, a student may
have to lose his/her seat in the manner mentioned in ―General Rules‖ stated below:
General Rules:
Students admitted to this college must abide by all rules and regulations of the college. Violation of the rules, irregular attendance, misconduct in any form,
adopting unfair means at the examinations and the likes will be treated as serious offences leading to suspension or even expulsion from the college.
Ragging is strictly prohibited. Students found indulging in such activities will be expelled from the college. Further, no student is allowed to take-up any
other full time course or hold a service during his stay in the college. Organisations, societies etc. of the students of Darrang College, will function only
under the guidance of the college authority. Only the organizations /societies recognized by the college authority will be permitted to use the facilities of
the College premises. All the notices desired to be pasted or circulated must be countersigned by the Principal.
Examination Rules:
All examination of the College will be conducted by the College Examination Cell. Due weight age will be given to the prevailing conventions of the
college in the conduct of examinations. The student must appear in all the examinations conducted by the college during an academic session, otherwise
they will not be allowed to sit in final examination. The examination schedule is embodied in the Academic Calendar of the college. A student expelled
from any of the examinations of the Council or the University will be expelled from the college also. TDC 1st / 2nd Semester students are to take admission
in the next promotional classes after appearing in their respective final examinations. A Candidate will get 3 chances in each Part of TDC but in all Parts
will get 5 years only. (Ref.: Regulation: 12, G.U.)
Attendance Rule:
H.S. 1st and 2nd year : Students who do not attend at least 75% of the classes held will not be allowed to appear in 1st year and final year examinations held
by AHSEC. TDC (1st / 2nd / 3rd / 4th / 5th / 6th semesters) : A student shall not be eligible to sit for the end semester examination as a regular candidate if he /
she does not attend a minimum of 75% lectures delivered in each subject separately or 6 credit per week per paper (GU regulation).
Leave Rules:
Leave applications are to be submitted to the Vice Principal‘s Office and only duly permitted and granted leaves are eligible for relaxation in atten-
dance. Students who failed to attend their classes for a certain period at a stretch on genuine and acceptable grounds such as serious diseases or accidents
and related treatment involving the students themselves and the members of the family, death of near and their ones, academic / sports / cultural activities
approved by the college must apply to the Principal within 24 hours in person or by e-mail: [email protected] or Fax to the Principal‘s office
(Fax No.: 03712-225409 / 224337) for consideration of leave of absence for the concerned period. Applications must be supported with testimonials /
documents whichever is necessary. Even for such cases the actual attendance must not fall short of 50%.

Darrang College has both Boys‘ and Girls‘ Hostel of its
own on the Southern and Northern part of College campus.
The College hostels may be considered and integral part as
well as an extension of the Institution. The Hostel atmos-
phere of the College reflects the divergent cultures of the
N.E. region. As such the students are required to maintain a
healthy community atmosphere in the Hostel. The internal
management of the Hostels is looked after by resident
wardens. A committee comprising of the Principal, Hostel
Warden and members from the Teaching Staff looks after
the smooth functioning of the Hostels.
Eligibility for Admission into the Hostel:-
Admission to the Hostel is granted only after the College
Admission is finalized.
No. of Hostel seats are limited and admission is made
strictly on the basis of merit.
Only outstation students are eligible for admission.
Admission process will follow Govt. Reservation Rules.
Admission is finalized after a personal interview with the
candidate, parents and local guardian.
HOSTEL FACILITIES COLLEGE LIBRARY
Darrang College has a modern automated library in a separate building in its premises.
The library has an impressive collection of books, Journals, News papers, Magazines,
e-Journals, e-books, bibliographic databases etc.
The newly constructed library with its open access system and spacious reading area
provides and atmosphere conductive to the excitement of constructive mentality. Students
are encouraged to become sagacious users of the library which is a welcome heaven for
intellectual pursuits. Moreover, most of the departments of the college have an individual
library called departmental library, which provides additional help to students and teachers
in their academic pursuits. The library also provides access to e-resources to the teachers
and students through UGC – INFLIBNET N – List programme.
A well equipped computerized library is an invaluable aid to the young scholars. The
college has a state of art library building spreading across three floors. The library remains
open from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm on all working days.
A student will have to apply on a separate form supplied by the librarian for access to
library books. Each student is allowed to borrow three books for TDC (Major) / PG
students and two books for others at a time.
LIBRARY RULES:
Library cards are not transferable.
Books are issued to students for a period of fifteen (15) days.
An overdue charge of Rs.5/- only per day is levied if a book is kept beyond the due date.
Books on loan with members can be recalled at any time without assigning any reason
thereof.
Borrowers must check the physical condition of the book before getting them issued.
Otherwise they will be held responsible for any damage or mutation notice at the time of
return.
Reference books marked restricted and bound volumes of periodicals and question
papers are not issued.
A fine of Rs. 20/- will be charged for reissue of a library card.

The College has provisions for awarding free or half studentship to the deserving students on the basis of their applications. Notification to this effect is
made in time. In addition to this, the students can avail the following awards for their academic achievements :
Bageria Foundation Trust (Instituted in 1997): One gold medal with a citation and college certificate of Merit is awarded to the graduates of each
faculty (Arts, Science and Commerce) securing highest marks among the degree final year candidates of the college.
Arunima Goswami Memorial Award (Instituted in 2000): A cash award of Rs. 2000/- and a certificate of excellence to the TDC final year students
from the college securing highest marks (not less than 60%) in Botany major and Rs.1000/- to the best students (academically) in H.S.
K. P. Agarwalla and Dilip Agrawalla Award (Instituted in 2001) : A Cash award of Rs. 2,000/- and a certificate of excellence to the TDC Final Year
student of the College securing highest marks in Mathematics Major and a cash award of Rs. 3,000/- and a certificate of merit to the best science graduate
of the College.
Dr. Hari Prasad Memorial Trust (Instituted in 2001): One time award of at least Rs.5000/- to a deserving poor student from the college selected for
admission into the Medical Stream.
Nirmola Devi Memorial Trust (Instituted in 2003): The Trust is opened with a donation of Rs.50, 000/- from Dr. A. K. Sharma, Ex-Principal, Darrang
College. The objective of the trust is to award Rs.1, 000/- (cash) and a certificate to those students who get highest marks (not less than 90%) in the subject
‗Chemistry‘ in Higher Secondary Final Examination among the students of the college and the student who obtains highest marks in Chemistry (Major)
with a 1st Class in B.Sc. Final Examination of Gauhati University.
Chandra Kanta Bhattacharya Memorial Award (Instituted in 2004): The award has been instituted by Dr. S. K. Bhattacharya, Ex-Vice Principal of
Darrang College. The award consists of a cash amount of Rs.1, 000/- is to be given to the Best Science Graduate from Darrang College every year. Cash
award of Rs.1, 000/- is to be given to the student securing highest aggregate marks in Higher Secondary Final Examination, Science Stream
Mominur Rohman Memorial Award (Instituted in 2005): A cash award of Rs.1, 000/- to those who get highest marks (not less than 80%) in the subject
‗accountancy‘ in Higher Secondary Final Examination among the students of the college which is instituted by Mr. Manoj Kumar Hazarika, Assistant

Madhurya Kalita Memorial Award (Instituted in 2006): The award is instituted by Mr. Gagan Kalita and Mrs.Anjana Kalita, parents of Late Madhurya
