The Danube RegionResearch and Innovation Fund

is the flagship project of Priority 7[to develop the Knowledge Society (research, education ICT)]of the EU's Strategy for the Danube Region


has the primary objective of mobilizing and distributing fundingto support the development of research and innovation activitiesin the countries of the Danube Region


Role of EY

► Complete a feasibility study for the DRRIF project and complete documentation (manuals and directives)to be used to provide a clear definition of the project, its management system, structure and activities based on the purpose and focus of the project.

► The goal is not the actual implementation of the proposed solution.

Goal:► To provide information on

absorption capacity of EUSDR member states (public and private sector)

► Identify thematic areas with highest potential to effectively absorb additional financial support

► Macro data: R&D expenditures, patents (mostly non-EU)► Unsatisfied demand for R&I grants (thematic areas / countries)

Approach► SWOT► PESTEL► Benchmarking (R&I inputs and

outputs)► Aggregate expert opinion



Goal:► To identify which programmes

and grant schemes are most suitable and willing to cooperate with DRRIF

Approach► Identification of relevant

existing European, regional and national grant schemes

► Evaluation of feasibility for cooperation (geographical legal, goal alignment)

► Analyze potential type and level of cooperation (financial, non-financial)

► Facilitate our contact with grant scheme representatives► Review of grant schemes overview


Analysis of potential DRRIF thematic areas(12 Priority areas in EUSDR)

Goal:► Identify shortlist of thematic

areas that will ensure competitiveness and further development of Danube Region.

Approach► Determine intersection between

EUSDR priority areas and RIS3 strategies with stress on results of Analysis of absorption capacity.

► Obtain inputs from public officials, private sector representatives, EUSDR representatives, scientists and academics.

► Participation on brainstorming► Country RIS3 Strategies



Goal:► Proposal of system that will

ensure continuous financing of DRRIF

Approach► Contact potential sources (EU,

regional, national, private) and evaluate their attitude to finance DRRIF

► Analyse obstacles resulting from common pot

► Estimate the size of the fund

► Facilitate our contact with grant scheme representatives
