Read all instructions before beginning the project.

Supply List• Sulky Filaine Thread in Light Mist 862-3976

• 30 wt. Cotton Blendables® Thread in Sun & Sea 733-4013& Carmel Apple 733-4010

• Sulky Bobbin Thread

• Stabilizers: Sticky Fabri-Solvy™ & Soft ‘n Sheer™

• Sulky KK 2000™ Temporary Spray Adhesive

• Organ needles: size 90/14 Top Stitch & 100/16 Universal or TopStitch

• Various green & brown quilting cotton fabric remnants

• Premade bias binding or extra fabric for self-made bias binding

• Base quilting cotton fabric (approximately 26”x32”)

• Cotton or polyester batting (approximately 26”x32”)

• Daylight Wafer Light Box (optional; for creating the appliqué pattern)

Decide on the Dandelion placement. Audition the enlarged pattern over the base fabric until the desired placement is achieved. Mark the Dandelion base placement; set aside.

Using a light box or other chosen method, create pattern pieces for the Dandelion base.

Label each piece with a letter and/or number to denote a specific green fabric color, using the handwork color image as reference.

From each green fabric, cut out the appliqué pieces. (Note: these instructions assume you’re working in one sewing session. If not, you may prefer to use SoftFuse™ Premium Fusible Web to secure appliqué pieces.)

APPLIQUÉInstall the 90/14 Top Stitch needle. Wind a bobbin with Sulky Bobbin Thread.Place each Dandelion appliqué piece onto the base fabric with all fabric right sides facing up. Use Sulky KK2000 to secure each appliqué piece. Pay attention to the pieces that go over or under each other, if desired.

Once satisfied with the placement, place a piece of Sulky Soft ‘n Sheer along the wrong side, underneath the appliqué pieces.

Straight stitch each appliqué in place 1/8” from the fabric edge using Sulky 30 wt. Cotton Blendables in Sun & Sea.

For the brown Dandelion Seeds, cut out various sizes of fabric strips from the brown fabric, using the enlarged pattern as a guide. Cut out as many or as few as desired.

Once satisfied with the number and placement of seeds, cover them with a sheet of Sulky Sticky Fabri-Solvy.

Place each Dandelion Seed on and around the Dandelion base.

The stabilizer will help secure the seed pieces as well as stabilize the fabric for appliqué.

Draw the Seed Pods onto the Sticky Fabri-Solvy using a marking pen.

Appliqué the Seeds to the base fabric using a straight stitch and Sulky 30 wt. Cotton Blendables in Carmel Apple. Stitch down the center of each Seed, along the edges, and/or across them to secure. If desired, set the machine for free-motion stitching to make quicker and more random work of this stitching.

Install a size 100/16 needle. Thread the machine with Sulky Filaine thread. Stitch along each Dandelion Seed Pod, backstitching along the Seed Pod ends to secure and also create additional dimension.

Continue adding all the Seed Pods to the Seeds. If desired, switch to free-motion to make quicker work of this process.

QUILTING & FINISHINGLayer the quilt top with the backing fabric and batting, using Sulky KK2000 to secure the layers.

Quilt as desired. The featured quilt was quilted with 30 wt. Blendables for the cloud motifs and random lines across the Dandelion base, which further secures the appliqués and adds texture to the flower.

Bind the quilt as desired, using premade or self-made bias binding.
