Dear Friends,

We are delighted to present the 2011-2012 Annual Report of our 31st season. The programming year was filled with first time

experiences and familiar favorites. We opened our performance series with the internationally acclaimed PEARSONWIDRIG DANCETHEATER on September 17, 2011 and closed the year with “Lost in Space,” a charming Energizers Creative Arts Camp Concert on August 10, 2012. From start to finish, Dance Place continues to support innovation in the dance community and to push the power of creative education for DC’s youth.

Along with Dance Place resident companies Coyaba Dance Theater, ReVision dance company and the Dance Place Step Team, audiences enjoyed some of DC’s best dance companies and outstanding national touring artists. The opening of Brookland Artspace Lofts next door, with 39 live/work units for local artists, included three dedicated spaces for Dance Place programs. We now have a secondary dance studio, a new apartment for our interns and a bright, welcoming space for the Children’s Creative Education Center. We kept daily adult and children’s classes and educational programs going with the strong leadership of our talented teaching staff.

While enjoying our present, we’re planning for our future. Dance Place began a new chapter of our history with the launch of our Moving Forward Capital Campaign (look for more details on the back cover).

As always we can’t do what we do without you! We thank you for your interest, support and involvement,

Carla Perlo Deborah RileyFounding Director Director

What do I love about Dance Place? There are very few places where you can exist as a professional dancer, a child, a dance aficionado and a concerned/involved community member at the same time. Dance Place is one of those places and has wonderful opportunities for all of those groups and still manages to maintain artistic integrity while keeping the door open for intermingling and learning.- Touring Artist Maura Garcia Dance
