Dan Dodds - Selected Portfolio

2013 - Harmonograph - Experimental long exposure photographs of harmonographic lines generated using a freely oscillating pendulum. This is part of an ongoing design project exploring consonance and dissonance using physical and digital modelling tools.

Render showing an extended version of TETRANote the form is made from 300 modules, showing the potential to extend the project if additional funding is secured

2011 - TETRA was a design proposal for an interactive art installation for Burning Man Festival 2012, exploring tetrahelical growth. It developed out of an exploration of the geometrical work of Buckminster Fuller, and a study of the concept of participation central to Burning Man

2011 - Swear Shoes Showroom - Designed and arranged construction of display furniture for Swear’s wholesale showroom, as well as designing furniture for the design offices of the parent company Six London. The furniture was constructed offsite using CNC cut plywood connected together using a system of rods in tension and pipes in compression. This project was a collaboration with Anthony Whittaker.

2011 - the10space - Designed and constructed an installation made from 1000 shoe boxes to display 10 years worth of shoes by Swear. The boxes were prefabricated into 15 modules held together using post tensioned wires in order to allow for an on-site construction time of one evening. This project was a collaboration with Anthony Whittaker and Ben Dodds

2009 - Nose to Tail Complex was a the final design project of my BSc at The Bartlatt. It explored Fergus Henderson’s ideas about ‘ Nose to Tail Eating’, and sought to blur the distinction between production and consumption of goods and food. It was exhibited as part of the RIBA Forgotten Spaces competition

2007 - Selected images from my 1st and 2nd year BSc work including a 2 metre high 1:20 model of a ‘Book-Crossing Hub’ proposed for a site near Farringdon, London, and a ‘Cheese Making Machine’ designed, built and used as a performative installation to make mozzarella on the streets of London.
