LeadBiologist,OffshoreWindTurbineImpactsonMarineAnimals,Fishermen’sEnergy,AtlanticCity,NewJersey.Mr.CookewastheLeadMarineBiologistforaprojecttoplaceanoffshorewindfarmoffthecoastofNewJersey.Heproducedawhitepapertodeterminethepotentialimpactsofconstructionandoperationofoffshorewindturbinesonthemigrationofmarinemammals,dolphincalvingareas,seaturtlesandfishinboththenearshoreareaand20milesfromshore.Anexhaustiveliteraturesearchwasperformedtocompileallavailabledataonmarineanimalsandwindfarms,constructionnoise,acousticresearch,andenhancementoffisheries.Inaddition,amulti-yearmarinemammalandfisherymonitoringplanwasdevelopedforthethreestagesoftheproject(pre-construction,construction,andpost-construction/operation).

GroupLeader,ManistiqueHarborSite,Manistique,Michigan.Mr.CookewasDivemasterandGroupLeaderfortheperformanceofsedimentcoringinManistiqueHarbortoconfirmthatdredgingofcontaminatedsedimentwassuccessfullyremovingPCBs.CoresampleswereusedtodeterminenotonlyconcentrationsofPCBs,butthedepthprofileofcontamination.TheUSEPADiveTeamperformedhundredsofdivestofacilitateharborremediation.

ProjectManager,OccidentalChemicalSite/HylebosWaterway,Portland,Oregon.Mr.CookewastheProjectManagerforanassessmentofgroundwaterinfiltrationintotheHylebosWaterwayinthesoutheastendofPugetSound.TheUSEPARegion10andtheWashingtonDepartmentofEnvironmentalQualitywereconcernedthatvolatilecompoundswereleachingintothegroundwaterandbeingtransportedtothewaterway.Theteamdesignednovelpassive-diffusionsamplingdevicesthatwereburiedbydiversinthesedimentfortwoweeks.Thedeviceswerethencollectedandanalyzedforvolatilecompounds.Inadditiontothediffusionsamplers,severalsampleswerecollectedusingspeciallydesignedseepwatercollectiondevices.
