SOLUTIONCavicloaks are preformed moulded DPC unitsfor use in cavity walls for use whereuninterrupted protection is required upwardlyand inwardly which calls for provision to bethree-dimensional.
Moulded from solid DPC Polypropylene,Cavicloaks are self-supporting and hold toprofile. Cavicloaks offer flexibility withoutsagging or distorting. Accordingly additionalsupport is not required when overlapping jointsin standard applications.
SIZESCavicloaks are supplied in a wide range ofshapes and running lengths to suit a wide rangeof cavity widths. A bespoke service also operatesto accommodate special requirements andcustomers’ specific needs.
When selecting or ordering Cavicloaks, there isalso the option of whether the top of the cloak isreturned into the inner leaf as illustrated, orterminates against it. It is the choice of thespecifier and attention is drawn to the Designers’Comments that highlight the considerations.

DESIGNERS’ COMMENTS
When used at ground level, both skins of a cavity wall are level with each other. Building the Cavicloak into theinner skin at this level is the usual choice because a support course is normally at an appropriate height andreadily available. As both skins are raised they can drift out of level – especially if each is being built using adifferent masonry module. In such instances as higher levels of the wall are reached, the specifier may elect forself-supporting Cavicloaks requiring no inner skin support. If intermediate floor levels or similar masonry skinalignment opportunities exist, the specifier commonly has both choices available. Cavicloaks at ground level candual-function, arresting upwardly (rising) damp and also downwardly moving (wall penetrating) water, thusaddressing PD 6697:2010 - recommendations for the design of masonry structures to BS EN 1996-1-1 and BS EN1996-2. Always provide a water evacuation route (Caviweep) even if the wall is rendered, to comply with 6.2.7.7.1of PD 6697:2010 that states rain will penetrate and run down the inside face of a wall rendered externally.
DAMP-PROOFING
Telescopic adjustable ventilators (Type TAV) (to ventilate underfloor areas)have been built into the exterior cavity wall prior to bedding of theperimeter Cavicloak. Each ventilator has been extended in height to takeadvantage of the Cavicloak bedding level coinciding above it andproviding protection. This approach removes the necessity to individuallyprotect each ventilator at a lower course level.

DESIGNERS’ COMMENTS
Trays must step down towards the external leaf not less than 150mm. Numerous lintels also act as a DPC butwhere these are less than 150mm in height (commonly many are 140mm) they do not technically satisfy thedamp protection requirements demanded in Building Regulations Part C and British Standards unlessaccompanied with additional DPC protection providing the minimum dimension stipulated.
