If you can sell pecans or know of a business that would like to sell them, please call the Art League. Color Splash parties

November’s Color Splash will feature a holiday theme with a poinsettia painting with instructor Kolleen Asaad on Thursday, Nov. 19 and possibly Friday, Nov. 20 from 6 to 8:30 pm.

Next year, January’s Color Splash painting of a winter scene with Carol Garver is Thursday, January 28 and possibly Friday, January 29 from 6 to 8:30 pm. Cost is $35 per person per Color Splash, which includes all supplies and refreshments.

The Art League will be selling Schermer pecans again this year. These are very good pecans and will be just in time for holiday baking! If you pre-order them, you will be able to pick them up at the Art League. We will also have extras for sale if you need more! If you can sell pecans or know of a business that would like to sell them, please call the Art League.

Studio OpenOpen studio is for all DAL members; non-members can attend once free of charge. This is a time to work on your personal projects. Cost is $50 per year or $5 per month for unlimited use. Members may volunteer 5 hours a month and receive free studio time. This fee allows you to use the building during Open Studio. Hours are: Tuesday - Saturday mornings 9 am-12 noon and Monday evenings 6-9 p.m.

MeetingsBusiness meetings are open to all members. The meetings are usually held every second Thursday at 6 pm. General meetings will be listed in our newsletters.

ScholarshipsThe Danville Art League will have scholarship applications available for student and adult classes offered in 2016. Call the Art League if you wish to have an application mailed to you.

If you haven’t renewed your membership, fill out the Annual Contributing Membership form on the back of your newsletter and mail back with your remittance. Please consider joining as a patron or supporting patron level when you send in your membership dues. Dues are: $55 min. for supporting patron, $40/yr patron, $30/yr family, $25 yr/individual or $10/yr student (with ID). Thank you!!!

Dues Reminder

Just in time for holiday gift giving or those holiday parties! Instructor Kem Wiggins will be teaching a Wine Glass Painting class on Wednesday, November 21 from 1 to 3 pm. Cost is $30 ($5 off when you pre-register and pay on time). The first wine glass is included in class price. Additional glasses available for $1 each.

Intermediate acrylic painting class

Instructor Kem Wiggins will be teaching an intermediate acrylic painting class on Monday evenings. Classes will run on November 2, 9, 16, 23 from 6 to 8 pm. You must have taken some form of beginner acrylics class before taking this one. Using your own supplies and images, you will be taught how to create great compositions and have potentially awesome artwork made by your own hands. Kem will help you improve your skills as you grow with instruction and guidance. Cost is $55 unless payment is received one week in advance for a $5 discount. A supply list is available online or by stopping in at the Art League.

Class registration In order for us to plan and have the needed supplies on hand, we ask that students pre-register at least 1 week before the first day of any class. Call the Art League at 442-9264 and give your name, address, phone number and e-mail address to register for classes. Zentangle rocks

Instructor Linda Shumaker, a certified Zentangle teacher, will be offering a new fall class. This class will introduce you to the Zentangle method and also give you something pretty to display during the holidays. If you have already taken one of my basic classes, this class will still give you a chance to make something beautiful for your Thanksgiving table. This class will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost is $30. Remember, you receive $5 off for enrolling and prepaying 1 week in advance!

Holiday closings The Art League will be closed November 25 through 30 for Thanksgiving. We will also be closed December 19 through January 4. There will not be a business meeting in December. We hope everyone enjoys the holidays!

The Paul Brumaghim gallery at the Art League will feature artwork from Kathleen Wilson during October, November and December. Kathleen is a recent graduate of Knox College. Her artist statement: “I use photographs that I have taken at home as the starting point for my current works. Using these images I explore abstraction and figura-tion together in one painting. My goal is to paint a space that has familiarity but also ambiguity for the viewer.”

Celebrating National Arts and Humanities month, two Art League members, David Nolan and Kolleen Asaad, whose works depicting Vermilion County’s history, were honored at a “meet the artist” reception at the Danville Public Library on October 29. Their works are on permanent display in the Archives Department at the library.

Kickapoo Pottery will be open November 7 and 8. They will also be open during the Little Country Tour weekend on Nov. 14 and 15. If you are needing a special order for Christmas, you should order it this month from them.

Members Edward Sant, Linda Shumaker, Steve Smith and Leslie Woodrum were juried into the Salt Fork River Art Festival held at Sleepy Creek Winery on September 26 and 27. Artists had booths set up around the grounds of the winery for the weekend.

Member Sherri Easley’s photo of a deer was chosen for the cover of Illinois DNR Hunting and Trapping digest. Sherri was also featured in a story that ran in the Commercial-News about her photo being elected for the cover
