In a first, the Centre has decid-ed to empower common man toseek prosecution of corrupt IASofficers.

The move comes after aSupreme Court judgement, in thecase of Subramanian Swamy ver-sus former Prime MinisterManmohan Singh and others, say-ing there is no provision in relevantlaws which bars a citizen from fil-ing a complaint for prosecution ofa public servant who is alleged tohave committed an offence.

Following this verdict, theDepartment of Personnel and

Training (DoPT) is in receipt ofrequests from private persons seek-ing sanction for prosecution inrespect of IAS officers without anyproper proposal and supportingdocuments. (PTI)
