Fact fluency
This week’s number facts strategy is ‘Use Ten’. This strategy when doing multiplication and division sums is based on the
10x tables. Strategy explained:
5x7=?
This means there are 5 groups of 7.
So 10 groups of 7 is double the amount of
groups. So think:
10x7=70
Half of 10 is 5. So half of 70 is:
70÷2=35
Therefore:
5x7=35
Complete the fact fluency activity below. Write the answers to these questions as quickly as you can. See if you can time
yourself or have someone else time you.

Step 2: Using your different shades of blues, evenly shade in the other half of
the page.
Step 3: Using tissue paper or a tissue, blend in the colours to make them smooth.
Step 4: Using a red colour, add a small section to the top of the yellow side. Use
tissue paper or a tissue to blend this in.
10
Step 5: With a lead pencil, colour in a firm base line.
Step 6: Draw a tree trunk and some branches, colouring them in with lead pencil
also.
Step 7: Add finer branches to the tree.
Step 8: Create swirls around all of the branches. This gives the illusion of leaves.

Step 9: Using a ruler, create 2 straight lines on either side. Draw a base and
colour it in to make the swing.
Step 10: Draw a person sitting and holding the swing and both sides. You can
choose who you draw on the swing – be creative!
Step 11: Using a white pen, crayon or oil pastel, draw a circle on the day side for
the sun and a crescent moon on the night side. Decorate your picture by adding
in some birds on the day side and some stars on the night side.
