Climate Action talks A series of climate talks, on the theme of “Time for action”, will be
held at the Kiosk on selected days, featuring 15-minute prsentations by speakers from civil society and governments. 4–4.30 p.m. The role of local government in ensuring the aims of the Kyoto Protocol, as well as the UNFCCC. Case study: City of Cape Town, South Africa As the sphere of governance closest to communities, local government is well placed to respond to the implementation of the aims of the UNFCCC and its Kyoto Protocol, decreasing greenhouse gas emissions and responding to the harmful impacts of climate change, in a manner that is sustainable. In South Africa, as is the case with most developing countries, this response is primarily from a developmental perspective and secondarily from a climate change perspective. Ms. Shirene Rosenberg City of Cape Town Environmental Resource Management Department Manager, Resource Conservation
4.30–5 p.m. Zoom – Kids on the move for climate protection A Europe-wide campaign for children aged 3 to 10 years on sustainable mobility and climate protection, running since 2002, with great success. A “green footprint” is awarded for each journey made using a sustainable means of transport on foot, by bicycle, scooter, bus or rail. Ms. Britta Freitag Chief Executive Officer Climate Alliance Germany
