cooperation, a joint military training, Exercise

Yudh Abhyas - 2019 is being conducted at Joint

Base Lewis Mc Chord, Washington, the USA

from 05-18 September 2019.

● Exercise Yudh Abhyas is one of the largest joint

running military training and defence

corporation endeavours between India and

USA.

● This will be the 15th edition of the joint exercise

hosted alternately between the two countries.

● Exercise Yudh Abhyas will provide an

opportunity to the armed forces of both

countries to train in an integrated manner at

Battalion level with joint planning at Brigade

level.

Growth of eight core sectors slows to 2.1% in July

● Growth of eight core industries

dropped to 2.1 per cent in July mainly

due to a contraction in coal, crude oil,

natural gas and refinery products.

● The eight-core sector industries, coal,

crude oil, natural gas, refinery

products, fertiliser, steel, cement and

electricity, had expanded by 7.3 per

cent in July last year.

● The output of coal, crude oil, natural

gas and refinery products recorded

negative growth in July.

● During April-July, the eight sectors

grew by 3 per cent compared to 5.9

per cent in the same period the

previous year.

recapitalisation plan with a one-time

infusion of funds by both the

IDBI, will infuse Rs 4,743 crore.

crore as a one-time re-capitalisation.

● The Shrine has been adjudged on the basis of

the overall improvement in sanitation.

● The Shrine was in direct competition with

dozen other iconic places including

Mithali Raj announces retirement from T20Is

retirement from T20 Internationals.

● The 36-year-old said she wants to focus on

her ODI career, keeping in mind the 2021

and the highest score of 97 not out.

● She made her T20 International debut in

world's most liveable cities.

● It is mainly due to an increase in

cases of petty crimes and poor air

quality, according to an annual survey

by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

by Vienna (Austria) for the second

consecutive year.

India jumps to 34th rank on world travel and tourism competitiveness index

● According to a World Economic Forum

(WEF) report, India has jumped six places

to claim 34th spot on world Travel &

Tourism Competitiveness Index 2019.

● In 2015, India had been ranked at 52nd and

at 40th in 2017.

● Spain tops the ranking index followed by

France and Germany.

● According to the WEF report, over 1.5 crore

international tourists arrived in India while

the share of travel and tourism industry was

3.6 per cent and that of industry

employment was 5.1 per cent.

inaugurated the 1st National Conference on

Cyber Crime Investigation and Cyber

Forensics at CBI Headquarters in New

Delhi.

● The two-day conference covers one of the

mandates of CBI which is to investigate

crimes with inter-state and international

ramifications.

● The conference is aimed at creating the

platform and bringing together investigators,

lawyers, forensic experts and academia to

discuss challenges related to cybercrime

and ways to find solutions.

RBI makes repo-linked interest rates mandatory

● The Reserve Bank of India has made it

mandatory for banks to link all of their new

loan products, be it personal, housing or

auto to an external benchmark like the

policy repo rate.

● RBI issued a circular saying that banks will

have to link their products to an external

benchmark with effect from 1st October

2019.

● The circular informs that banks can also

choose any benchmark market interest rate

published by Financial Benchmarks India

Private Limited - FBIL or the government’s

3-month and 6-month Treasury bill yields

published by FBIL as their preferred

external benchmark.

Central Government to invest Rs 25,000 crore in 5 years to revamp fishery infrastructure

कें द्र सिकाि मत्स्यपािि के िुनियादी ढांचे को पुिजीनवत कििे के निए 5 वषों में 25,000 किोड़ रुपये का निवेश किेगी

● With the objective of achieving the real goals of

the ambitious Blue Revolution project, the

Union Government has lined up Rs 25,000

crore investments in different sectors of

fisheries in the next three to five years.

● As inland fisheries contribute only 50 per cent

of the total fish production, the Government

intends to outspread its potential by covering

reservoirs, wetlands, rivers and streams in

different parts of the country.

● Considering the low contribution of inland water

fisheries, the Government looks to increase its

production to six million tonnes from three

million tonnes in the next three to four years.

● The announcement was made at ‘Aqua

Aquaria India 2019’ at Hyderabad.

Sitharaman led panel weighs ordinance to ban e-cigarette sales

● A panel of ministers led by finance minister

Nirmala Sitharaman will study a health

ministry proposal to ban the sale of

electronic cigarettes through an ordinance.

● The panel includes ministers from

commerce, health, agriculture, chemicals

and petrochemicals, and food processing

departments.

● In August 2018, the health ministry issued

an advisory restricting advertisement of

electronic nicotine delivery systems

(ENDS), popularly called e-cigarettes.

● According to government data, more than

460 e-cigarette brands are available in

India, with various configurations of nicotine

delivery and in over 7,700 flavours.
