Dagmar WMA is a treasure containing significantnatural communities, among them, old growthTupelo-Cypress swamps. Some of the Cypresstrees may have sprouted 500 years beforeColumbus discovered America. The WMA isalso considered an important waterfowl winteringarea and supports a diverse native wildlifecommunity including white-tailed deer, black bearwild turkey, alligators and wintering bald eagles.The Ramsar Convention, an internationalintergovernmental treaty that has provided theframework for protection of the world’s mostsignificant wetlands, has named Dagmar WMA a“wetland of international importance” Thisimportant wetland ecosystem containsapproximately 9,805 acres and is protected andmanaged by AGFC.
