Some of the Cypress trees may have sprouted 500 years before Columbus discovered America. The WMA is also considered an important waterfowl wintering area and supports a diverse native wildlife community including white-tailed deer, black bear wild turkey, alligators and wintering bald eagles. The Ramsar Convention, an international intergovernmental treaty that has provided the framework for protection of the world’s most significant wetlands, has named Dagmar WMA a “wetland of international importance” This important wetland ecosystem contains approximately 9,805 acres and is protected and managed by AGFC.
