ANALOGUE VS. DIGITALDigital sketches were made to make the communication between Laerdal and us easier. Besides having a nice image, digital sketches can be used to rapidly explore form and colour. Using one main digital sketch and explore that one will make decision making easier. The reason is the consistency between sketches.

CardiacStart is a new way of accurately acquire an electrocadiograph (ECG) of
patients. The use of wireless ECG electrodes is making it able to acquire an ECG twice as fast. The self sensing electrodes are making existing
wires useless, which results in a less busy workspace around the patient.
Themainbody,whichincludesadefibrillator,
has a detachable monitor. When there is a less severe case (priority 2), the paramedic can
carry the light ECG monitor to acquire an ECG. By replacing the printer, which is used in the
current situation to print ECGs, with a screen, the weight can be reduced with 2 kg.

-
DEFIBRILLATOR BODYThemainbodyofthedefibrillatorcanbeheldvertically
with an integrated handle during carrying. It includes two orange buttons which can be pushed to detach the ECG-monitor or the battery. There is an option to attach a strap to the main body as well. The strap can be attached above the orange button, shown below, and at the bottom of the product. For long distance walks or when the paramedic is busy with both hands, the strap is a usefull feature.

USER INTERFACEThe user interface of the detachable screen replaces the printer that is used nowadays because its using the same measurements as the printed ECG. An integrated keyboard makes it able for the paramedic tofillinthepatientdetailsfaster
then the current situation. The keyboard can also be used to write comments which can
be send to the cardiologist. Besidesfillinginpatientdetails
and reviewing the ECG results, the user interface includes software that supports the paramedic during CPR and breathing assistence. A CPR assistence bar that goes up and down, beeps and voice assistence are examples of the supporting software.

1. PRODUCT ARCHITECTURE
The wireless ECG-electrode exists of two parts. The part with the transmitter and electronics (1) is plastic and is a long-term use product. The pad (2) is a disposable sillicon part that is using a
conductive gel at the bottom to receive the electrical activity better. A click button is chosen because its used in the current situation,
where it shows good conductivity.
2. CLICKING PAD
The part with transmitter (1) can easily be clicked into the pad. Also the button makes it easy to detach this part from the pad.
3. SIZE REFERENCE
The pad is 40 x 40 x 10 mm

GRADUATION PROJECT
Design a concept for in the kitchen environment which works on gas and
will be sold in the high-end gas cooktop market in the year 2020

COMPANYThe goal was to create a product which uses gas as a heating source to heat food as ATAG Nederland is a specialist in gas products.
USER RESEARCHDuring the analysis phase I used two kinds of user research. First of all I arranged a focus group with cooking lovers to get familiar with cooking as a hobbyist. (1 = Qualitative data)
A design probe was made to gain more insights in the way the target group is cooking (2 = Quantitative data). Users were asked to solve scenarios, draw their dream kitchen and what kind of supplements theyre using. Also, they were asked to take photos for a week during their cooking process.

Flexibility and smartness in devices is becoming
more and more important for hobby
chefs

FOCUS GROUP DURING MY THESIS
DESIGN DNATo completely understand the ATAG design DNA, I analyzed all of the products of ATAG. Afterwards I made a small booklet with all of the design elements described per cooktop line. This booklet gave me a good reference during discussions with colleagues.
-
IDEATIONThe ideation was divided in two different phases. First of all I invited some people from the focus group, together with colleagues of ATAG and started brainstroming about the findings of my research (1).
The second stage of the ideation was done individually. After I clustered the ideas from the first ideation phase, I started sketching more ideas related to these clusters. (2)

USER TESTINGOne of the most important things of designing is getting feedback from users. During my graduation projecttesteddifferentuser
interfaces, lay-outs of the cooktop and control knobs.

The concept is a gas cooktop with universal points where you can click differentburnersinto.Thismeansthattheusercanchange burners between cooking sessions. If more people are coming over for dinner, the consumer needs burners with more power. Normally youll buy a cooktop for about ten yearswithafixedsetup.
This modular gas platform will be using one magnetic knob which controls the whole the cooktop. Using a knob in a gas cooktop gives control over the flame.Asthegasregulationiselectronicallycontrolled, digitalfeaturescan
be implemented as well. A timer which automatically shuts down the gas inlet when it ends is one of those features.

After discussing with product engineers, lab engineers and combustion experts, a theoretical technique has been developed to create a detachable gas burner
on universal connecting points.
WHY ARE YOU STUCK TO A FIXED COOKING AREA?
-
As visible in the image displayed on the left page, the gas hobs are modular. Two hobs can be used to create a big heating area. The modular system is designed in such a way that the bridge burner, the long burner which is
connected between the two gas hobs, can be positioned between every gas hob.
