A Word from Our LTG

Glad you survived the “end of the world” and you are able to read this wonderful

newsletter. It is now 2013: a new year means new friends, new opportunities to seek out,

and new memories to make. We’re down to 3 months left for the 2012-2013 year, but that

doesn’t mean we should settle down and get comfortable with the end of the year.

The new year provides new types of projects, new leadership opportunities, and new

ways to get involved in our communities. Clubs should start seeking out new, unique

opportunities to get involved. Start talking with your club to think of new projects and start

the year off fresh, instead of repeating the same projects. Find a new “flavor” of service that

your club can enjoy participating in, and plan it out!

Along with new projects, election season has arrived and it is time for your club to

select new officers. If you, or someone you know, are interested in running for office,

encourage them! A Key Club leadership position is something that you can’t experience

anywhere else, and who knows, that person may BEE inspired to run for District or even an

International position! Running for a position is an amazing experience, regardless of the

result.

Lastly, start talking with other organizations/clubs in your local community! Pair up

with another club in your school for a joint-service project, or even make new connections

with service organizations to create long-lasting volunteer bonds. Who knows? This new

connection might be a new tradition for your club for years to come. Start brainstorming

ideas and coming up with new, innovative ways to BEE the best you can BEE this upcoming

year. That’s all for now – I hope everyone is enjoying their Winter Break. Good luck with

semester exams, and I hope you chill down for the rest of the holidays.

In service,

Johansen Pico

Governor

Division Leadership Team from the editor

Season’s Greetings, Seamonkeys! The long awaited Winter Break is finally here! I hope you

all are enjoying the cold weather and shopping those

holiday sales. :D January is quickly approaching, meaning

the club election season is underway. Don’t be afraid to

pursue those positions and be sure to encourage your

fellow Key Clubbers to become more involved. If there is

anything you need, questions, concerns, or even advice,

feel free to shoot me an email! In the meantime, have a

safe and happy new year. See you next month. Swimming in Service, Elizabeth Quan

Operation School Bell, December 8th, Cimarron Memorial HS

Volunteering to help at Operation School Bell has been one of the most heart-

warming things I've done. We were trained by awesome, good-hearted people that

had the patience to guide us in getting the job done. We helped fill up some bags with

some nice clothes, winter stuff, school supplies and hygiene packs for kids that applied

for help at their schools. Although we didn't have a chance to have the kids present to

see their happy, innocent faces, the team captains told us about their experiences with

the kids. This made us all, especially me, want to go back soon to experience this

wonderful opportunity to help.

Holiday Spectacular, December 8th, Ed W. Clark HS

On December 8th, I participated in the Holiday Spectacular at the Springs

Preserve. This festival was a great way to introduce the holiday season in Vegas. For only

$8, you could enter the Springs Preserve and check out all the fun games they had to

offer. A snow maze, a bouncy slide, arts & crafts, and even cookie decorating were just

some of the many sights to see. The locals also seemed to enjoy a machine that blew

fake snow, for it is definitely rare to see in the city.

The volunteers were allowed to pick an area that they would be in charge of. I

worked at the guest services in the very front of the building. My duty was to pass out

informational brochures and greet everybody. The best part of my position was that I

got to see the excited faces all the kids had when they had saw the numerous activities

they could participate in! This event was even more exciting because this was the first

one I was the designated officer for.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time volunteering at the Holiday Spectacular and I'd

love to do it again sometime.

Winter Induction Banquet, December 3rd, Northwest CTA

The induction banquet was a happy moment of mine. I was so proud to see all the new

members be officially inducted into our Key Club. Whether they were enjoying the food

or socializing, I was glad to see the members enjoying the banquet made for them. I

loved how nice everyone looked too. I was also impressed with the really cute

decorations done by the banquet committee. And of course, the food was wonderful

this year. I'm also glad key clubbers from other schools were able to attend. I'm just so

proud of NWCTA's members, especially the new ones. I'm looking forward to the rest of

the year with the members. As always, it was a wonderful banquet NWCTA. I can't wait

for the next one.

Rock n’ Roll Marathon December 2nd, Cimarron-Memorial

I attended the Las Vegas Rock n’ Roll Marathon, and had an amazing time! Being a

part of something so simple that benefits many charities was a blessing. We got to set up

the area in which the runners come through after completing the race. I never knew

handing out Gatorade would be so intense. Since there were so many runners coming

in it was hard to keep up with the pace so I just started walking around with the boxes of

Gatorade, because by the time we would put the Gatorade in the ice chest it would be

gone. We even started a competition for handing out Gatorade. Volunteering was

really fun, and I can't wait for more volunteer opportunities.

Santa Run, Durango HS

Santa run was a great event. After we registered under the volunteers, the run finally

started. We helped cheer on the runners. We saw so many people in Santa costumes

and cute dogs. We helped direct the runners and they were all happy to have us. It

took a long time to see the end of the runners, but it was fun since I got to be with my

homie, and that is Switt Jamjuntr. We were all pretty tired, but I am glad to be a part of

this event. Overall the event was fantastic and I hope to participate again next year.
