Openingthetopdoorof the forwardcompartment ontheright fendergainsaccesstothecombinationpowertrainoilf illtubeanddipstick(Q).
Openingthefront doorof theforwardcompartment onthe right fendergainsaccessto thepowertrainoil f ilter(S). Thisspin-ontype canister containsareplaceable6-micronfilterelement. The filterbasecontainsafilterbypassswitch(R). Thisisa normallyopenswitchthat isheldclosedbythefilterbypassvalvespool.Thebypassvalveopens,allowingtheswitchtoopen,whenthedifferenceinpressurebetweenthefilter inletandthefilteroutlet becomesgreat enough(approximately50psi) . TheswitchismonitoredbytheCaterpillarMonitoringSystemand alertstheoperator tothefilterbypasscondition.
Thefilterbasealsocontainsthepowertrainoilsampling(AA)andapressuretest port (BB)forthetransmissionchargingcircuit. Thepressuretestport is situateddownstreamfromthefilter. Thepowertrainoilsamplingport is situatedupstream, or beforethefilter.
Alsolo catedin theforward compartment on theright fen derand inboardfrom thepower trainoi lfilter canister arethe following service points:
(T). remotepowertrainbreather (M). remotepressuretest port fortorqueconverterinlet pressure(N). remotepressuretest port fortorqueconverteroutlet pressure
Locatedat therearof themachine, ontop of thethetransmissioncasearethefollowingservicepoints:
1. Transmissionmain relief pressuretest port (P)2. Transmissionlubepressuretest port (L1)3. Transmissionlubetemperaturesensor
Pressuretest portsforeachof thefivetransmissionclutchesremainonthetransmissioncover. Thesepressuretest portsare:
(CL1). Transmission clutch (reversecl utch)(CL2). Transmission clutch (forwardclutch)(CL3). Transmissionclutch(speed3)(CL5). Transmissionclutch(speed1)(CL4). Transmissionclutch(speed2)
Clutchengagement pressure calibrationsare no longerrequired, withthe commontop pressure strategy. Proper adjustment of thetransmissionmainrelief valvewillset the properpressurefortheoperationof all f ivetransmissionclutchesandthebrakes. I t isstillnecessarytoperformtransmissionclutchfillcalibrationsandtoperformbraketouch-upcalibrations.
Thescreenedmainsuctionmanifold(A)forthepowertrainoilpumpislocatedat theright front of themain case, near thebottom.
Thethree-sectiongear-typepowertrainoil pump(B) ismountedtothefront of themaincase, at theupperright.
Theelectronicbrakevalve(C)islocatedontopof themaincase, tothe left of center.
The torqueconverterinlet relief valve and the lubed i s tr i bu t i on m a ni f o ld a r e b o th i n c or p or a te d i n t o o n ehousing(D). Thesetwo componentsaremountedto theleft front of themaincase, nearthebottom.
Thetorqueconverterinlet relief valve(J) andthe lubed i s tr i bu t i on m a ni f o ld ( L ) a r e b o th c o n ta i n ed i n o n ehousing. Oilfromthe torqueconverterchargingsectiono f t h e p o w er t r a i n o i l p u mp i ssu p p l ie d t o t h e t o r q ueconverterinlet relief valvethroughtheupperhose(K).
Thetorqueconverterinlet relief valveisinstalledin thehousing. Excessoil f lowspast theinlet relief valveintothemainsumpthroughaport inthefront of thecase, andbehindthehousing. Oilf lowto thetorqueconverterinletisthroughthehoseon theright (N).
Cooledoilfromthepowertrainoilcoolerisdirectedtothelubedistr ibutionmanifold(L)throughthehoseontheleft(M). Thesmallerhose(P)isthelineleadingtotheremotepressuretest port for torqueconverterinlet pressure( ) . Thisremotepressuretest port islocatedinsidethefront compartment ontheright fender

of thetorqueconverterandfor lubricationpurposes.
Thetransmissionchargingsection(G)of thepowertraino i l p u m p su pp l i es a p p ro x i ma t el y 5 4 L / mi n . ( 1 4. 3 U Sgal. /min. )of oiltothetransmissionandbrakescircuit.
Thetransmissionandtorqueconverterscavengesection(H)of thepowertrainoilpump drawsapproximately125L/min. (33USgal. /min. )fromthetorquedividercase, andthetransmissioncase.
Thescavengeoilisusedforlubricationof thesteeringdifferential. Thepowertrainoiltemperaturesensor( I )providesmainsumpoiltemperatureinformationtotheMachineECM. Thisisthe temperaturesensorthat isconsideredwhenperformingpowertraincalibrations, suchasbraketouch-upsandtransmissionclutchfillcalibrations.
Thetransmissionchargecircuit accumulatorismountedbeneaththefueltankandlocatedabovethe transmissioncase.
Thisaccumulatoris pre-chargedto approximately1724kPa(250 psi) . I t is usedto helpmaintaintransmissionchargecircuit pressureforshort periodsof time, suchaswhentransmissionclutchesare filling(shif ts)or at other timeswhen thepressure in thetransmissionchargingcircuit maybecometoolow(coldoil, lowidle, etc. ) .
