Children stand in a circle with one ball betweenthem. Two players (depending on group size)

are in the middle of the circle with one ballbetween them.  The players in the circle pass

the ball round the circle as quickly as they can, counting their passes and the players in the

middle make as many passes as they canbetween each other.

Make the circle smaller if children are notgetting success or bigger if it is too easy.

Bounce passing can be introduced for the two

players in the centre to slow them up.

Pass the ball around the circle once to see if thepair in the middle can beat those on the outside

or play a timed game.

Can make different tasks at each cone for pupils todo e.g. bouncing the ball around the cone, moving

the ball around the centre of the body withoutdropping it, moving the ball through their legs

without dropping it.

Groups of 3 cones laid on diagonal lines. You cando this making 3-4 groups of cones so less pupilsare standing around Roll the ball (keeping hands

in contact with the ball) to the first cone on adiagonal – circle the cone Roll the ball to the

second cone – sit on the ball without falling off.Roll the ball to the third cone – roll the ball aroundtheir feet Pick up the ball and move to next groupof cones and do the same thing on a different line

of cones.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS: Keep one hand on the ballwhile rolling. Keep your head up.

EquipmentDescriptionDribble and Shoot

3 hoops are spaced out at the end of the area(left, right & centre) these are the scoring zones.

Leading to these hoops are 3 cones.

The teams stationed at the start of each line ofcones. Each group have a ball. Players ‘dribble’

the ball as much as possible in and out thecones. At the last cone they have a shot of

shooting the ball into the hoop to score. Theythen take the ball back to the next person in line.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

Encourage as much bouncing of the ball as

possible in the relay and not so much emphasisas a race.

Encourage as much dribbling of the ball aspossible whilst remaining in control. When

shooting stop with feet shoulder width apart andaim carefully.

EquipmentDescriptionZootropolis

Children are given animals from the warm up. Hoops are placed around the space in a large

circle Children move around the trail in the movements

of that animal. When they reach a hoop on thetrail they do a two footed jump inside and back

out it

Another quick demo of how to two foot jump.Progress this onto children having a ball each andmoving around the trail as they please holding a

ball with two hands.

Children can jump into the hoops with two feetand then bounce their own ball in the hoop catch

it above forehead, then jump out.

Jumping must always be off two feet . As skillsprogress, small cones can also be used to jump

over or to and from mats

The ball should be held in two hands and shouldnot be dropped

Get the children into a space.  On the coachescommand, they will move about the room:

Green – walk/run/hop/slow motion run

Amber – jog on the spot Red – freeze/stop in a “ready position”

Mix up the commands to suit the group

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

Children should stay in a space with no touching.

Children should be aware of others, don’t move too fast.

Ready position is feet shoulder width apart, knees veryslightly bent, hands touching together in front about

waist height and elbows bent

Encourage changes of direction, try not to haveeveryone going round together in a big circle,

demonstrating as necessary

Pupils should be split into 2

teams, separated by a bench orcones.  Each pupil has 2 sponge

balls each and throws them acrossthe divide into the other teamshalf, with the other team doing

the same.  This continues until theteacher calls time.  The team withthe most balls in their half looses.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

Pupils should throw under arm

and be encouraged to throw intospaces

EquipmentDescriptionRelay Races

Split the class into four groups.

Each group lines up behind a cone at one end ofthe hall – place a further 3 cones in front of each

group, spaced equidistant down the length of thehall – place a tennis ball on the first cone.

The first player runs forward, picks the ball up fromthe first cone, then moves forward and places theball on the second cone.  They then run round thethird cone and, on the way back, pick up the ballagain from the second cone and place it back onthe first cone.  High five the next player in the line

for their turn, who will do the same.

EquipmentDescriptionRacquets Race

Each player has a racquet and a tennis ball.

Player balances the ball on the strings (they can use 1 or bothhands on the racquet).  Player has to keep ball balanced on

the strings, and move very slowly around the hall.

(During this exercise, coaches can put down a number ofcones on the ground and ask the players to walk around

them)

On command, the players stop moving – then ask them toclose their eyes and see how long they can keep the ball

balanced for

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

Emphasis on safety – if ball falls off racquet players can pick itup again, but they must be careful not to walk into another

players racquet

Slow and steady movement around the hall, looking for goodbalance and keeping the ball under control

Depending on success, ask players to move racquet into their

other hand/if using 2 hands try to use just one

Tunnel Ball

Make a circle with everyone standingup with feet apart; feet should touch

the feet of the person next to you.

Aim: Try to roll the ball through anotherplayers legs.  (not the person directly

next to you). Try and keep the ball inside the circle

and not allow it to go through your legs. You can only use your hands to stopthe ball.  You are not allowed to catch

the ball only deflect it.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

Use softer touch balls.   Ensure everyone’s legs are quite wideapart to allow the ball to go through.

Warm Up Dance

Using slow music in thebackground, encourage the childrento stand like ballerinas.  Standing on

one foot, stretch the other out infront and touch the toes to the

front, with alternating legs, this canprogress to side and back touches, gradually encouraging them to lifttheir foot higher. Move up the bodyto knees, getting children to bend

their knees slightly, as in a plie (plee-ay) from ballet, and progress this

into a full plie by bending the kneesfully, moving to a crouch positionand back up to standing.  Move to

the upper body, and get thechildren to “make a basket” with

their hands in front of their tummy. Reach down to the floor, trying tokeep the legs straight and hands

linked, and reach back up to the sky.

No equipment required

Balance

Main SkillHWB 0.21a, 1.21a, 2.21a

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

Ballerina stance is with heelstogether and toes pointingout in opposite directions.

Encourage children to keeptheir head up and back straight, like a ballerina!

All warm up moves can berepeated as many times asnecessary, but should be

slow and controlled.

Encourage children to tryand keep their legs straight.

Prevent the children from

bouncing into the stretch orgoing too far so that it hurts.

EquipmentDescriptionTravelling

Revise running on tip toes, skipping and galloping andencourage the children to practice these movements in

the space with light feet and no noise.

Creativity;

In a group, discuss other movements that dancers maydo on stage e.g. spin, jump, leap.  Lie equipment in thespace that corresponds to that movement i.e. hoop tospin in, a spot to jump onto and a mini hurdle to leap

over.  When the music is off, encourage children totravel in the space.  When the music comes on, the

children should approach a piece of equipment and dothe corresponding movement.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

These movements should be practiced slowly, quietly

and gracefully

Encourage the children to dance as quietly andgracefully as they can, making little noise.
