Letter From Thomas Hayden, Board ChairmanThe Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation has achieved remarkable success, one youngadult at a time, for nearly 100 years. This model works. We just need help to expand onthis success, and reach even more students every year.

Many of you already help without realizing it. The CSF manages the scholarshipprograms authorized by over 125 endowments and foundations for manydifferent trustees, as well as those funds with the Greater Cincinnati Foundation. CSFprovides tremendous efficiency, as 97% of the donated funds are directly applied tothe goals of those organizations!

The academic 2015-2016 year marks another great year of assistance and connection:

• 1,083 college scholarships were awarded totaling $1,603,935 were awarded for this academic year. THANK YOU DONORS – YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

• THE NEED KEEPS GROWING – Thanks to the diligent assistance of the CSF team, a new high of 1,848 qualified new applicants were accepted into our database. But we were only able to provide awards to 311 of them.

• The aggregate need of those not receiving an award was $3,091,027.

A NEW MODEL – An easier connectionIn the last 15 years, average student debt has grown from just over $10,000 for

graduating students, to over $35,000 last year.

CSF is developing ways to expand the visibility of these qualified applicants through an online environment that will connect all: donors, current and potential; employers; quali-fied applicants; current and past recipients.

Go to www.CERKL.com/CSF to see how our community can work.

Visit our website and view our community. Help spread the story on the success of these students and how easy it is to part of the solution!

A UNIQUE FUND MATCHING OPPORTUNITY THIS YEAR!CSF is pleased to be one of the few organizations selected for Cincinnati Magazine’s inau-gural CINCY GIVES CAMPAIGN CHALLENGE:

• 37 Non-Profit Organizations compete to win $15,000. The organization who raises the most in this challenge will win a bonus $15K!

• Begins “Giving Tuesday” November 29 and ends December 27

• Give what you can https://www.crowdrise.com/cincinnatischolarshipfoundation

• POINT, CLICK, MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!

Finally, my sincere thanks go out to the staff of CSF for their tireless work on behalf of the youth of our community; the grantors of the scholarships, without whom the opportunity would not be provided; the Board of Trustees whose guidance and input help expand those opportunities; and the educators, counselors and children’s advocates of Greater Cincinnati who make the mission achievable.

Participation, assistance, and recognition make a difference!

Sincerely yours,

Thomas Hayden, ChairmanCSF Board of Trustees

About Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation Founded in 1918, the Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation, through the administration of business, family and individual scholarship funds, has helped tens of thousands of students finance their education. CSF empowers Greater Cincinnati to help thousands of local students achieve their goal of a college education.

Due to a lack of scholarship funds

only 13% of the

$12,670,000 in actual financial need

was awarded.

296 qualified applicants were

not able to be awarded. The Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation is located at 602 Main

Street, Suite 1000, Cincinnati, OH 45202. You can reach them at 513.345.6701 or visit their website at cincinnatischolarshipfoundation.org.

“Unfortunately, the CSF can only help about 50% of the

students who apply to it due to a lack of available funds for awarding these scholarships.”

HOW TO START ASCHOLARSHIP FUND If you would like to help Greater Cincinnati area students in achieving their goal of an education, there are three ways of setting up a scholarship fund:

Permanently Restricted Contribution or Endowment• Required by donor restrictions, or by law, to maintain the contribution in perpetuity.• The principle cannot be spent, only the income earned

Temporarily Restricted Contribution• Use of this fund is limited by donor-imposed time or purpose restrictions• The entire contributed amount can be used for its restricted purpose

“Pay-As-You-Go” Fund• Requirements are set up and the amounts to be awarded are predetermined and agreed upon by the funder and the CSF• Payments are made on an annual or semiannual basis

Although CSF doesn’t charge a fee for an endowment account setup, there is an administrative fee, which is 15 percent of the amount awarded per year, not the total amount of the fund.

Benefits• CSF reviews all financial aid information to ensure there is financial need and no other aid is replaced if student is awarded • A personal interview with the applicant when appropriate • Thank you notes are obtained and forwarded to the donor on the recipients’ behalf• Semi-annual progress reports on the students sent todonors
