How to Choose

Need an Installer?

With VELUX, you have several choices, no matter how your house and roof are constructed. Before getting startedand to help you make the best possible choice for your application, read the following steps:

For VELUX deck mounted skylights, the roof pitchmust be between 15 and 85 degrees. If the roofpitch is below 15 degrees, the VELUX flat roof curbscan raise the pitch from 0 degrees to the requiredminimum. For VELUX self-flashed skylights, curbmounted skylights and sun tunnels, the roof pitch must

be between 15 and 60degrees. For roof win-dows GPL and GDL, seepage 28.

Here you have to choose between one largeskylight or several smaller ones. Often it would be agood idea to look at the construction of the roof.

VELUX has five sizes that fit perfectly in betweenthe trusses. If a wider skylight is required, combinetwo skylights close together.

VELUX offers seven sizes that are ideal for 16” on-center rafters which can generally be cut to accommodate preferred placement.

ELECTRIC VENTING SKYLIGHT (VSE or QVE)For applications above 15 feet and in rooms

that need natural ventilation (especially kitchens andbaths), use the electric venting skylight and electricalblinds.

MANUAL VENTING SKYLIGHT (VS or QVM)For applications out of reach but still in a room

that needs natural ventilation and where a manualoperation is okay, the venting skylight will be thebest choice. Choose one of the manual blinds anda rod to operate the skylight and blind.

FIXED SKYLIGHT WITH VENTILATION FLAP (FSF)For applications with only limited need for venti-

lation, the fixed skylight with a ventilation flap willbe a good choice. Choose electrical blinds for opti-mal light control or a manual blind and a rod foroperating the flap and the blind.

TRUSSES RAFTERS

FIXED SKYLIGHT (FS or QFS)For applications where ventilation is not needed,

our fixed skylight will be the most cost efficient choice.Choose electrical blinds for optimal light control or amanual blind and a rod.

FIXED CURB MOUNTED SKYLIGHT (FCM)For replacing old curb mounted bubbles, use the

FCM and the cellular blind for optimal energy control. Remember the rod for operating the blind.

ROOF WINDOW (GPL or GDL)If you can reach the window, our top-hung roof

window GPL will be the best choice, or even better, the roof balcony GDL will dramatically change theroom. Manual blinds will be the best choice.

SUN TUNNELS (TSF, TTF, TSR or TTR)Perfect for second baths, closets, halls and stair-

wells where a view to the outside is not a requirementor a skylight shaft length would be over 4 feet.
