    SCENERY TECHNICAL LIMITATIONS

    1. No AI Traffic

Due to the very steep mountain slopes on either side of CZST it was not possible to program AI traffic

movements at this airport (believe us, we tried!). The AI traffic system in FSX cannot cope with a limited circuit

area in terms of open space and the AI usually crashes into the mountain sides. We hope to investigate a

possible solution for this FSX limitation in the longer term but for now we have some excellent static aircraft

modeled on location to at least provide some resemblance of an active airport.

    2. No ObjectFlow Control of the Hard Winter Runway and Aprons

During the implementation of the automated ObjectFlow control of the hard winter runway and apron

surfaces during January and February, we discovered a simulator limitation regarding draw-order priorities for

large polygons with objects placed on top. This caused the grass bounding the runway to pop in and out,

something we decided was an immersion-breaker. For now, the interim work-around is to manually select the

hard winter option using the CZST Control Panel (see page 12).

    3. Water shorelines, water bumps, vehicle traffic, roads and streetlights

At the time of this Version 1.0 release of CZST, we have not yet finalized the PFJ.002 region patch due to

Holger Sandmann being overseas with other Orbx commitments. This upcoming patch will remedy

mismatched water shorelines, traffic on roads and also the placement of streetlights in the town of Stewart.

For now we have used temporary excludes to disable the vehicle traffic and some streetlight, and you may

notice some creeping water and water bumps in the river system on approach. Please note we are aware

of these issues and they will be rectified in the upcoming PFJ.002 region patch.

    Thank You!

Orbx would like to thank you for purchasing FTX US CZST Stewart Airport (CZST).

This is the second airport in Russ Whites PFJ series which also includes Ketchikan and Bella Coola. Like Russs

previous projects the immediate airport area has been constructed entirely as a 3DS Studio Max model whichallows for some truly staggering texture resolution whilst still maintaining an acceptable level of performance.

Due to limited access to actual photos on the ground at the airport (short of actually flying there to take

them), all of the ground and building textures have been meticulously crafted by hand whilst still trying to be

faithful to the information shown in the scarce reference photos available. What this means is that you will

really be taken by the rustic and weathered feel of this location and youll be able to explore the area on foot

(using Orbx BOB) and see an aspect of the airport more akin to first person shooter graphics quality rather

than a flight simulator. Russ even used a particle physics system to scatter randomly sized rocks and boulders

around the airport aprons! We are sure you will be thrilled to explore this unique location.

Of course, were not in the business of only creating insane levels of detail on the ground and the scenery

includes a generous area of photoreal imagery for both approach vectors, including the surrounding steeplysloped mountain ranges, rivers and towns.

CZST Stewart is approximately 100 miles northeast of PAKT Ketchikan International airport so if you have that

Orbx scenery youll be able to enjoy some very scenic flights between those two locations, albeit limited to

smaller aircraft though due to the 3900 x 75ft runway.

During hard winter you will see the Orbx Snowflowtechnology working, adding layers of snow to roofs and

    other scenery elements.

Orbx FTX Pacific Fjords is required for full functionality

This airport scenery addon is designed to work with Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Orbx FTX Pacific Fjords

(FTX PFJ). It will work fine without FTX PFJ but please note the limitations below.

Here's what is required to run this airport scenery as Orbx designed it to:

    PRODUCT Version(s) Why

    Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX)

    Standard Edition

    Deluxe Edition

Acceleration Addon Pack (not a stand-alone product)

Gold Edition (which includes all three versions above)

If you don't have FSX already, the best version to

purchase would be the Gold Edition, which alreadyincludes all versions and service packs SP1 and SP2.

    The base product required.

All Orbx products are made for

    FSX and don't run by

    themselves.

    Orbx FTX Pacific Fjords (Download)

This is a downloadable FTX region pack which you can

purchase from the Orbx fullterrain.com website. It's

designed to work specifically with FSX

    The FTX region covering the

    airport location

    Orbx FTX Pacific Fjords (DVD)

For convenient installation, the Orbx FTX USA CanadaPacific Fjords region is also available as a DVD.

This offers a quick and easy installation of the entire FTX

Pacific Fjords region in which CZST is located.

    (Optional)

    An alternative way to purchase

FTX PFJ on a handy quick toinstall DVD covering the Pacific

    Northwest region

WHAT WILL YOU MISS OUT ON IF YOU DON'T HAVE ORBX FTX INSTALLED?

    - Blending of the airport photoreal into the surrounding terrain with exactly matching ground textures

    - The Pacific Fjords coastal region represented by Orbx's FTX textures, landclass and mesh

    - Moving traffic on all major and minor roads, properly aligned to the photoreal ground terrain

    - 3D light poles along roads and in urban/township streets and around the airport

    - Orbx's modified autogen houses, custom trees and other objects

    - The FTX Central application, which is used to launch all the Orbx tools and also switch FTX off

Please visit www.fullterrain.com to purchase your copy of FTX if you haven't already done so.

    Quick Installation Guide

Whether you are installing Orbx CZST from the downloaded FlightSimStore wrapper installer or the DVD

purchased from an Orbx Reseller, the procedure is very similar.

    DOWNLOADED FSS WRAPPER EDITION

    STEP INSTRUCTIONS

1 Unzip the FlightSimStore.com (FSS) downloaded ZIP file. You should end up with the FSS

    installer application OrbxFTXCZST100.exe

    2 Run OrbxFTXCZST100.exe

3 Fill in the Order Number, Date and Key when requested. This information would have been

emailed to you when you purchased the download version of CZST from FSS.

4 The wrapper will unwrap the Orbx installer which will then run and present the opening

installation screen. Please acknowledge the EULA page and continue. You cannot choose a

destination folder, since all Orbx products are installed into the ORBX folder in the FSX folder

5 Once the Orbx installer has completed, start FSX and choose CZST as your starting location

    ORBX RESELLER DVD EDITION

    STEP INSTRUCTIONS

1 Insert the CZST DVD into your computer's DVD drive. If you have autorun enabled, the

installer will start automatically, or prompt you to run Setup_CZST.exe

If you don't have autorun enabled, please use Windows Explorer to open the DVD contents

    then run the Setup_CZST.exe application

2 The Orbx installer which will then run and present the opening installation screen. Please

acknowledge the EULA page and continue. You cannot choose a destination folder, since all

Orbx products are installed into the ORBX folder in the FSX folder

    Manual Scenery Library Configuration

If you do NOT have Orbx FTX installed you can still use this scenery by manually adding the scenery library

entry from within Flight Simulator X.

Here's the steps required to configure the scenery library.

    1. Run Flight Simulator X, then select Settings | Scenery Library

    2. Click on the Add Areabutton

    3. A folder browser window will pop up.

    4. Navigate to the ORBX \ FTX_NAfolder

    5. Now select the FTXAA_CZSTfolder and click OK

    6. You will then see two folders displayed, Sceneryand Texture. Now click OK*

*(Note: If you're using Windows 7, click anywhere in the white portion of the folder browser screen that shows

the Scenery and Texture folder, not the OK button- there's a bug with FSX under Windows 7)

    7. You will now be taken back to the Scenery Library list of scenery added, and the airport will now be

displayed at the top of the list.

You can now load up a flight at the airport using the "Free Flight" menu.

    Scenery Coverage Area

CZST is unique in that it features a ultra-high resolution airport built as a 3D model. So there is no photoreal

ground imagery at the airport since it is constructed entirely with HD textures applied to the model.

For the surrounding area though, theres a very large 60cm/pixel photoreal area covering the steep terrain, mudflats, riverscapes and towns to provide authentic terrain for the approach vectors.

    Control Panel

After CZST is installed, a Control Panel icon is placed onto your Windows desktop. You can also use FTX

Central to access the CZST Control Panel from the main FTX Central interface.

The Control Panel will enable you to disable or enable the Hard Winter runway and apron textures which in

this initial version require manual selection by the user.

To disable or enable the Normal or Hard Winter runways and aprons, simply select your choice from the list.

Any changes are made instantly and there is no Apply button required.

    Quick Reference FSX Settings

The table below lists in a handy reference the minimum recommended settings required in FSX to enjoy CZST

the way Orbx designed it. These settings run well on most PCs and take particular advantage of the custom

mesh and photoreal imagery used in the scenery area.

Note: Even though the CZST building models and modeled ground textures are technically at 2cm/pixel, this

does not relate to the ground texture resolution in the simulator, which affects only the photoreal ground

    imagery.

If you use the settings below you will enjoy a high fidelity experience and good performance.

    Setting Value Why?

Level of detail radius Large Reduces blurring of textures

Global Texture Resolution Max Best displays photoreal textures

Mesh Complexity 100 Better terrain definition

Mesh Resolution 5m 5mis requiredfor this airport scenery

Texture Resolution 7-15cm You may set to 7cm if you want the sharpest road textures, but

set this to 15cm if you experience micro stutters

    Scenery Complexity Extremely

    Dense

    How Orbx designed CZST

Autogen Density Very Dense Best FPS versus detail More discussion on this on page 17

regarding setting this slider according to your PC specs

Aircraft AI Traffic 0% Disable Aircraft AI Traffic at CZST since it cannot be used at

this airport. The side benefit is better FPS for approaches.

Road Vehicles 16% No need to set higher for CZST

Leisure Boats 1-16% Keep leisure boats below 50% to avoid micro-stutters

    Recommended FSX Slider Settings

Firstly, like default FSX, dragging all your sliders to the right even with todays modern hardware, will for most

people result in very poor visuals and performance. We suggest that you begin your exploration of CZST using

the slider settings shown below, and then if you find performance to be acceptable, you can move certain

sliders to the right, although we recommend you only move one slider at a time to gauge the effect.

The most critical slider in FSX is the Autogen Density slider. With the way CZST has been designed, it has the

single most critical performance effect in the simulator. We'll discuss the best settings for this slider later.

So before you begin your first flight, please change your FSX sliders to what is shown on the following pages.

You may think the settings are too low at first, but we're calling these the CZST BASE SETTINGSwhich is the

recommended settings for medium spec PCs.

    The Autogen Density Slider

Because FTX uses much denser, more accurately placed autogen objects in its annotation, having it set to

Extemely Dense in large cities will bring even the most powerful PC to its knees. We won't mince our words -

FTX is not designed to give you a 60FPS experience with all sliders maxed.

The key thing to remember is that CZST is designed to be used both today and in the future, meaning that we

did not cripple the product on release to cater for a broad range of PCs, but rather created a standard which

will be enjoyed by most people as hardware catches up.

Here's a simple table which should be used as a guide for the Autogen Density slider. This has been indexed

to PCs as at January 2011, which means this table will become dated rather quickly. We expect the 'Extreme'

spec PC to be the Entry Level by mid 2012, so of course as FSX gets older, your PCs are likely to get faster.

That said, if you adhere to these slider settings in CZST you will get a good balance between visuals and

    performance.
