Cylindrocladium in Buxus: Background
• Young fungus• Very infectious• Aggressive / infection after 5 hours• Development at 5°C to 30°C• Preference for humid to very wet conditions• Way of life and distribution unknown• Limitation crop protection package to combat the
illness

• Daily: QMS® check infection pressure forecast.
• Weekly: observation round / scouting.
• Monthly / when high infection pressure: counts.

Cylindrocladium: Test 2014 / observations
Class Description Information 0 Healthy crop Not a single contaminated leaf visible 1 Very lightly contaminated Clearly visible contamination, but not more than five
leaves per plant. 2
Lightly contaminated
3 Moderate contamination
4
Clearly visible contamination and easy to count. 5 to 10 leaves are clearly contaminated. Clearly visible contamination and easy to count. Number of contaminated leaves between 10 and 15. Counting leaves becomes more difficult and it is estimated that no more than 20 leaves are contaminated.
5 Heavy contamination More than 20 leaves are contaminated. This is hard to count and is an estimate.
6 Counting is impossible. It is estimated that 5 to 10% of the crop is ill or loses leaves.
7 Very heavy contamination. 10 – 30 % contamination or lost leaves per plant.
8 30 – 50% contamination or lost leaves per plant. 9 Extremely heavy contamination. 50 – 100 % contamination or lost leaves per plant.
