busy planning for this exciting build week and most importantly for your arrival. Whether you are with us for a day or the full week, you will be a part of Trinity Habitat’s partnership with Fort Worth and Central Meadowbrook to revitalize the neighborhood! Thank you again for your time, labor, compassion and dedication! In partnership, Trinity Habitat for Humanity Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project Overview The Carters became involved with Habitat for Humanity in 1984 when, as an experienced carpenter, he helped renovate a six-story New York City apartment building. That initial project was the seed for what would become a long-lasting partnership. Every year for three decades, the Carters have spent a week building homes with Habitat for Humanity. The Carters' yearly commitment to Habitat – called the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project – brings a spotlight to the local host community and an enthusiasm for Habitat for Humanity’s work across the globe. The 31st annual Carter Work Project will take place October 5–11 in Fort Worth and Dallas,Texas.

Preparing to Volunteer Recommended Clothing Clothing should be comfortable and appropriate for the weather conditions. The average temperature the first week of October is 58 degrees in the morning and 81 degrees in the afternoon. Volunteers are asked to wear their 2014 Carter Work Project T-shirts. Sturdy work boots or shoes are required for the work site. Sandals, flip-flops and open-toed shoes are NOT allowed on the work site. Tools & Safety Equipment Trinity Habitat for Humanity will provide the tools, materials and safety equipment including hard hats. Volunteers who own safety equipment and hand tools (personal power tools are prohibited from Habitat construction sites) are welcome to bring those items. Please note though, you will be walking around the site and anything you bring will be your responsibility to keep up with! In terms of safety equipment, all volunteers are required to wear a hard hat and safety glasses at all times while working on the construction site which Trinity Habitat will provide for you when you arrive.

Required Gear Pick-Up Volunteers participating in the Carter Work Project will each receive a T-shirt and nametag. Volunteers are required to pick up these items prior to the start of the Project. Gear will be available for pick up October 1, 2 and 3 between 4pm-7pm at the Trinity Habitat office, 3345 South Jones Street, Fort Worth, TX 76110. Gear will be available for pick up at the Marriott Courtyard Blackstone Hotel on October 5 from 2pm - 7pm for all out of town volunteers. Additional Considerations Volunteers should remember to bring personal items such as medications, contact solution and other items needed to ensure a safe & healthy experience. DRINK WATER! And Eat Foods High in Potassium Drinking plenty of water is the number one way to help your body adjust easily to the heat. Foods such as broccoli, bananas, avocado, cantaloupe, celery, greens, bran, granola, dates, dried fruit, potatoes and tomatoes will help you replenish electrolytes by balancing salt intake. Pack for Sun and Rain Bring sunglasses, sunscreen and lip balm. Also, bring rain gear (i.e., coat, hat, etc.).

Enjoy Yourself We anticipate the weather will be beautiful this time of year. Just follow these simple tips and you will have a great experience!

Habitat for Humanity Overview Trinity Habitat for Humanity Profile Trinity Habitat for Humanity is committed to building quality workforce housing that transforms families and communities. We are an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a non-denominational Christian housing ministry and global home-building movement. Habitat is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; advocating for fair and just housing policies. Locally, we were founded by volunteers in 1989, and since then, have built more than 500 homes in Tarrant, Johnson, Parker, and Wise Counties, housing over 1,515 people. In addition, we have repaired and/or painted another 786 homes.

Habitat for Humanity International Profile Habitat for Humanity International’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Anchored by the conviction that housing provides a critical foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty, Habitat has helped more than 4 million people construct, rehabilitate or preserve homes since 1976. Habitat also advocates to improve access to decent and affordable shelter and supports a variety of funding models that enable families with limited resources to make needed improvements on their homes as their time and resources allow. As a nonprofit Christian housing organization, Habitat works in more than 70 countries and welcomes people of all races, religions and nationalities to partner in its mission. Central Meadowbrook Neighborhood Central Meadowbrook is a thriving community on the eastside of Fort Worth. The proximity to downtown, Loop 820, and I-30 make it an ideal location for families needing access to areas in Northern, Southern, and Eastern Tarrant County. The Central Meadowbrook Neighborhood Association is active and involved in the growth and development of their community. The multi-ethnic NHA is made up of members who have lived in the community for 30+ years and young families who are just starting their families and investing in their future. Today, neighborhood residents are looking to the future and

eagerly participating in a City-lead neighborhood planning process and working with city council members and numerous community groups to revitalize their neighborhood.

Brief History of Van Natta and Greenlee Streets Van Natta and Greenlee Streets are located on the southeastern end of the community. From approximately 1984, an apartment complex occupied both sides of Van Natta and a collection of four-plex apartment units were constructed on Greenlee. In the mid 1990s, after years of changing and, in some cases, absentee ownership, the apartment communities on both streets were demolished. In 2000-2001, the vacant property was foreclosed on by the City of Fort Worth. For much of the last 20 years, the vacant lots have been attractive to vagrants and people looking for places to dump trash.

Transformation Trinity Habitat for Humanity will build 24 single family houses on these lots (the majority during the 2014 Carter Work Project). The new development will create an attractive entrance transition from the Lancaster corridor. The development will represent $2,000,000 in financial investment to this community and generate approximately an additional $50,000 annually in property tax revenue. The new houses will not only transform the lives of our new Habitat homeowners, but will also transform this part of the community!

Interacting with President and Mrs. Carter during the Construction Week

While President and Mrs. Carter are building on site and attending the opening ceremony, celebration dinner and closing ceremony please respect their limited time schedule and do not approach the Carters for photos or special requests.

You will have an opportunity to have a professional group photo taken with the Carters, the homeowner(s), and volunteers on your project site on Tuesday, October 7th. You will be able to access those photos online after the event. Thank you in advance for you cooperation!
