Family Movie Night & Community Thanks!

Good things continue at your CVUSD NfL! On December 9th, we hosted our first movie night. With generous theater donations from Muvico at The Oaks Mall, we welcomed over 250 children and families for a FREE screening of Toy Story. The night was incredibly special. As the calendar year came to a close, Earths staff and parent volunteers ceased the moment, in spite of the hustle and bustle of the season, to rejuvenate and share some amazing, memorable moments with the children. Not only did they share quality time with children to build upon their relationships, but rejuvenated by joining in and modeling the importance of play. A couple of activities stood out during our yearend fun! We joined the elementary school children in the

winter concert on the blacktop and sang some holiday cheer with the greater school community! We also enjoyed cozy, one-on-one and small group interaction with teachers by sharing a pancake recipe and played the “Pie-Face” game! What a way to end 2015!

Frances Kurowski Lead Family Services

Coordinator & The Earths Team

Welcome 2016! We hope you all had a wonderful vacation and holiday season! This is an exciting time because our morning class will start sending home “Homework Bags.” The children really enjoy selecting a bag and bringing it home to do “homework”! The jobs in the bags range from literacy activities to math activities. The children learn to be responsible for borrow-ing from school and bringing the item back (with all the pieces) but also work on building and en-hancing academic skills. We ask that you support your child with their homework but that the work is done by them. Children will all get a bag on the same day and we ask that you return on the expected due date- more information to follow. In our afternoon class, our Moorpark student teachers wrapped up their semester with us, we will miss them. They each planned a “special teacher” in charge day as their final project, and the children really enjoyed it. In February, we will have a new group of student teachers starting and they will be with us through May. Please introduce yourself when you see them.

University Building a Stronger Community We sincerely thank our NfL parents

for their continuous support

through volunteering in the

classroom and attending our

educational workshops while

building relationships with other

parents. When parents are involved

from an early stage, they are able to

understand their children’s needs

and development, helping their

children to grow up safe and

healthy. Our program was able to

donate 9 car seats for children with

the assistance of our partners, Safe

Kids and the Ventura County Fire

Department. Educational programs

were also offered. Additionally, we

have the opportunity to assist some

families with basic needs through

the program All it Takes, as well as,

other community volunteers. The

connections in the community and

the acts of kindness brought happi-

ness to their homes.

Infant Happenings Family Resource Centers Since August, the City Center Infant Room has hosted

student teachers from Moorpark College and California

State University Channel Islands. Devynn, Joelle, Jessica,

and Aunica joined us to learn more about programs for in-

fants and toddlers as part of their Child Development stud-

ies.

During their time with us, they implemented lessons and

experiences for the children, including art, music, math,

literacy, and sensory activities. They learned about how we

plan for the children based on our observations of their

interests, needs, and developmental stages.

Most of all, they learned what high quality relationship-

based care looks like in a real world setting. Our student

teachers were able to observe an incredible amount of

growth in a relatively short amount of time, as babies in

our room went from rolling to crawling to walking.

THANK YOU to Devynn, Joelle, Jessica, and Aunica! They

will be missed, but they will now move

forward to have bright futures as teachers

and caregivers!

A me-

it Takes, Westlake Fitness, Kiwanis, Skip y sus amigos.

partir algunos memorables y sorprendentes

momentos con los niños. No sólo compar-

Devynn,

sotros. GRACIAS a Devynn, Joelle, Jessica, and Aunica!
