August 2009Race Judicata® Sprint For Justice Edition
Yet another great race! The field was packed at this year’s Race Judicata®, CVLS’ annual 5K run/walk/party. The almost 3,700 runners in attendance helped to raise over $200,000 to assist CVLS in the fight to provide equal access to justice to all. Every year Chicago’s legal community comes out in droves to support this great cause, and this year was no exception.
Thank you to all of our sponsors, runners, walkers and volunteers for making Race Judicata® 2009 one of our most successful races ever!
All race results can be found online at www.cvls.org/judicata.

How do you protect elderly clients (or relatives) from losing all of their financial assets when they need nursing home care? How can you protect yourself and your own family from the expense of future illness? Elderlaw attorney Janna Dutton, of Janna Dutton & Associates PC, understands and works with Medicaid and Medicare regulations and issues. She will be able to explain the route people need to take to plan for the future and protect assets and future income. This seminar will provide useful information for helping your clients and your families.
August 27 “Estate Planning For Medicaid ”by Janna Dutton
Lawyers argue for a living. We stake out a position on behalf of our client and pursue it. We challenge. We litigate. We do battle because we are advocates. However, not every client benefits from the fighting. In some cases, mediation may be just the ticket. The court knows this. That’s why mediators are available in eviction and pro se courtrooms and why the Probate Court refers some contested guardianship cases to the Center for Conflict Resolution. Cassie Lively, of CCR, will explain when and how mediation may better serve your client. CCR’s services are free and available to anyone who may benefit. Although it doesn’t always work, a successful mediation can achieve a lasting resolution because the parties worked it out together
