Resident Stars

Marj was born in Southern Iowa. Her favorite memory from her childhood was sitting in the front row at church and listening to her Daddy preach. Marj used to play basketball and roller skate at the skating rink in Spring Lake Park near Jefferson, Iowa. (The rink is still there with an old wooden floor and an organ!)

During Marj’s high school and married years she lived the good country life in and near Paton, Iowa. Her husband, Bob, loved to play softball. He was a great pitcher, coached and was an umpire. Marj and Bob had 5 children: Bobby (who has passed on), Dick (who lives in rural Boxholm), Colette Arnett (who lives in Blue Springs, Missouri), Ruth Smith and Mary Sealine (who live in rural Stratford). Marj also has 7 grandchildren: Dean, Nici, Annette, Michele, Jenny, Ryan and Christa. In addition to these grandchildren, Marj has 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Marj’s favorite pastime now is to enjoy time with her family. Marj moved into the Crestview Apartments in February of 2008 and moved into the care center in the end of this January. Her favorite thing about Crestview is that it is a family-oriented place where everyone is so friendly and helpful.

Helen was born in Marengo, Indiana and had 1 brother and 3 sisters. Her father was a farmer and

her mother was a housewife. Helen’s favorite memory from her childhood was living on a farm and spending

time with her friends and family. Helen loved to play outdoor games, go swimming in the river and go

fishing when she was a kid.

Helen married Norval Coleman on December

27, 1948 and they had 48 wonderful years together. They were not blessed with any children, but have

many nieces and nephews that she loves as her children. The couple spent 25 years in Southern

California, where Norval helped build the Interstate Highway System. They then retired to Payette, Idaho

for 14 years before making Webster City their final home to be closer to family.

In her younger years, Helen worked at Morton’s Frozen Foods in Webster City and most of

her married life she was a stay-at-home housewife. When she and Norval had free time, they loved to go

fishing, hunting, play golf and go to Las Vegas.

Helen’s favorite pastimes now are playing cards, visiting with family and friends, and

participating in the various activities at Crestview. Before moving to Crestview in April of 2011, Helen

lived in the Crestview Apartments. Helen’s favorite thing about Crestview is the loving care she gets

(especially from Sarah) and spending time with her friends. Helen would like the other residents and

families to know that she is very thankful for her niece, Joan Coleman, and all the care Joan has given

her. Helen has few relatives, but living at Crestview helps fill the void.

Employee Spotlights

Samantha is from Alden. She graduated from Alden High School and got her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. When Samantha is not working at Crestview, she enjoys reading, cooking, baking, doing crafts, spending time with her husband, Jarod, and two kids, Ethan (6 years old) and Hailey (4 years old).

Samantha’s husband works in plastic recycling in Iowa Falls where they make things like park benches from recycled materials. Ethan is in 1st grade at Alden Elementary School. He loves to read, do science projects and make crafts of all kinds. Hailey is in Preschool at Alden Elementary School. She loves to play dolls, paint her nails, do her hair and make crafts of all kinds with her brother and mom.

Samantha has worked at Crestview as an LPN for a year and a half. Her favorite thing about working at Crestview is listening to the residents tell stories. She said she knew when she first came to get an application that it was a friendly and welcoming place because everyone was smiling and said hello!

Shanda is from Webster City. She graduated from Webster City High School and got her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Iowa Central Community College in Webster City. When Shanda is not at work she enjoys going to her son Dawson’s band concerts and her son Dayne’s football and basketball games. She loves family time, going to movies and out for supper. Shanda and her family are ready for summer so they can go camping!

Shanda has been married for 13 years. Her husband Steve is an electrician at Pioneer. Shanda and Steve have 3 children: Dawson (12 years old), Dayne (11 years old) and Ava (3 years old). Dawson is in 6th grade and loves to read and play the saxophone. Dayne is in 5th grade and loves football and basketball. Ava loves playing with her babies.

Shanda has worked at Crestview as an LPN since August of 2011. Shanda’s favorite thing about working at Crestview is listening to the residents tell

stories of the past from their life experiences.

Kelsey’s Lemon Thyme Bars

Crust: 1 c. softened butter ½ c. sugar 2 c. flour

Crust: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Blend together butter, sugar and flour. Press into the bottom of an ungreased 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until firm and golden.

Lemon Mixture: Reduce oven temperature to 300 degrees. Whisk together eggs and sugar until combined. Stir in lemon juice, lemon extract, thyme and flour. Pour over hot crust. Bake about 30 minutes or until set. Cool completely in pan before cutting into 24 bars. Sift powdered sugar over bars immediately before serving.

Lemon Mixture: 4 large eggs 1 ½ c. sugar ¾ c. lemon juice 1 tsp. lemon extract 1 tsp. thyme leaves 1/3 c. flour
