9 – Work History & Experience

I started on construction as a Semi-Skilled Electrician and Instrumentation Technician at B&W Electrical & Instrumentation based in Alberton. During my time with them I was involved with the ACP Acid Plant Project in Rustenburg where I was based for just over a year. My main job functions was electrical and instrumentation installations on the new plant. On completion of the project I worked and a new thickener plant in Limpopo where I was part of the team who installed the first Profi-Bus Instrumentation System developed by Siemens. I also worked on a couple of other smaller projects like IMPAL Plats 14 Shaft. I was also one of seven employees who went to Mozambique to do the site establishment for the new Sasol Natural Gas Plant in Themane; I was responsible for all internal wiring of the administration buildings, Authoric Protection for the various vessels and tanks and the installation of the HV cables for the six HV Transformers for the plant. Unfortunately I was retrenched before I completed my five years practical experience which I needed to qualify for application to do my Trade Test.

After my time with B&W I got the opportunity to Study for a Safety Officer.

After obtaining minimum requirements I worked for Italswana Construction Company in Botswana on the De-Beers project in Orapa. We build the new technical Office Block for De-Beers. I was the Senior Site Safety Officer and was also the Scaffolding and Support Work Supervisor for the project. The project had 220 employees on site at peak.

During my time in Botswana I was contacted by Babcock Africa to work for them on the Natural Gas Conversion Projects which I accepted. They knew me as I worked for them on a GO Project at Lethabo Power Station while completing my studies at NOSA before going to Botswana.

I was involved in both phase 1 and phase 2 of the gas conversion project. This entitled the conversion of the user equipment which at that stage was still using Sasol Gas. For the Natural Gas to work efficiently the all the regulators and nozzles had to changed.Phase one was the conversion of the industrial user’s equipment – during phase I dealt with all kinds of Manufactures in the Greater Witwaters Rand Area. I conducted the

9

HIRAS and SOPS for clients like BMW, NISSAN, and CONSOL Glass etc. there were at the time about 1500 industrial clients using Sasol Gas.Phase two was the conversion of all the domestic users’ equipment which included restaurants, hotels houses and flats in the same area as the industrial users. As I was the only Safety Advisor for the project I was responsible for all SHE Related communication with the various clients/users, I managed the stores, PPE and the Fleet of Vehicles and Mobile Workshops. At peak we had nearly 200 employees. The first phase lasted 18 months and the second phase 15 months. During this time the only reported incident we had was a High-jacking where some of our employees where held at gun point and four of our vehicles were stolen. My LDC contract ended on completion of the project.

I went to work for DMC a division of the Dickenson Group who specialise if furnace rebuilds maintenance and upgrades. I did a furnace rebuild and furnace upgrade project for them on Trans-Alloys in Rustenburg. I was responsible for the writing and implementation of the SHE Management System and subcontractor management; I also managed the scaffolding for the project.

I worked for Murray & Roberts on the Simuma Project in KZN where we build the new Clinker Plant for NPC (Natal Portland Cement) I was the Senior Site Safety Practitioner for the project and had a team of 10 employees reporting directly to me which included the HR department and a Full Time Nurse (Occupational Health Practitioner). I was involved with the project from tender phase. I was responsible for site establishment, the stores and all other SHE related matters. At peak we had 4 tower cranes and about 10 mobile cranes which included 2 lattice boom crawlers in an area the size of a rugby field. I was involved in all area of the project from planning and erecting the onsite batch plant which included HCS Management, managing the scaffolding contractor where I also designed specialised scaffolding for the silo and preheater tower.

I was also part of the team to use the first Doka Shuttering Method for the casting of the concrete structure of which the highest building was 75m the silo we did in a continuous cast with a hydraulic system the silo was nearly 110m high. I was also involved with the blasting operations. This was a turnkey project which included all earthworks, civil, mechanical, and electrical and instrumentation construction. I left the employment of Murray & Roberts due to financial reasons and the fact that the offer I received from DMC was for permanent employment and that at the time I was still on a LDC contract with Murray & Roberts which was in contradiction to the employment agreement we had.

I stated with DMCE as SHE Manager and updated their SHE Management System before the new project started which was the PPC project near Thabazimbie. As the directors new me and stayed in touch during my employment with Murray & Roberts they knew I had experience in the construction of such a plant. The scope of work and responsibilities was similar to those on the Simuma Project. However we used expats for allot of the mechanical work which was a learning curve as all communication had to be translated in two or three languages. During the project the top management broke away and started Prodin Projects, I was one of the site management team who were offered a position in the new company I joined their team in January the following year.

10

During my time at Prodin Projects I was involved with various projects of various sizes from minor civil upgrades at Samancor to major rebuild of Furnaces like the Swartklip project which was the demolition and rebuild of the ANGLO platinum 6-in-line furnace. During my time with Prodin I assisted with tenders, stores and equipment management, HR/IR management, Training and Site management. After my time with Prodin I went to work for CIVCON part of the Erbacon Group. I completed 2 projects for them where I was based on site one in Stilfontein and one in Sasolburg where after I was based at their head office in Midrand. I resigned due to financial reasons.

I then worked as a SHEQ Manager for ACM Construction my contract ended the end of April 2013 due to restructuring within Sasol our major client at the time.

I am currently employed by Civil & Power Generation Project (CPGP), as their SHE Manager. I am currently stationed in Lephalale on Medupi Power Station.

I have worked on projects for large companies like ANGLO, Samancor, BHP Billiton, Sasol, Omnia, Eskom, IMPALA, Exaro, NPC and PPC. During my years on construction I have been involved in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil (Concrete), Civil (Earth Works), Building, Roads Work, Form Work and Scaffolding Operations.

I have managed entire projects on both SHEQ and Production aspects.

I am confident that I will be successful in any endeavour and add value to any organisation.
