• Resume = “summing up”– Only 1-2 pages– Focuses on job experience/skills
• CV = curriculum vitae = “course of life”– Focuses on education, publications, experience– Longer than a resume but be brief

• There is no “right” way to format
• DO NOT use a template

• DO NOT include: – Marital status– Age– Race– Nationality– Citizenship– Language (unless…)

Education
• Reverse chronological order• Do not necessarily need to include ALL
education– Higher education most important
Experience
• Reverse chronological order• Separate Research Experience and
Laboratory Techniques into two separate sections
Areas of Interest
• Depends on the job/position• Shows whether you are a “good fit” for the
position– Industry– Graduate School

• Put your name in BOLD
Poster Presentations
• Put your name in BOLD
• Include posters on which you are an author but did not actually present

• It is never too early to start joining professional/academic societies– Many offer steep student discounts– Chem Club counts!
