Function Areas

• Civil Filings - Civil function areas are located on the 1st floor of the Justice Center.

- The Civil Division’s responsibilities include filing new complaints, replevins, cognovits, special

dockets, motions, pleadings, service instructions and CVPO’s; issuance of Civil Stalking

Protection Orders; E-Filing; service/summons; journalization; collecting Child Support

Payments; processing Passport Applications; certified copies; order of sales; confirmation of

sales; forfeitures; and acceptance of Notice of Appeals.

• Criminal Filings - Criminal function areas are located on the 2nd floor of the Justice Center.

- Responsibilities include arraignment functions, criminal case initiation, and processing

bonds.

• Finance Department - Finance function areas are located on the 1st floor of the Justice Center.

- Responsibilities include accounting for all funds deposited with the Clerk of Courts through

bonds, court costs, fines, and fees. Also the department disburses funds on deposit to the

appropriate parties at the end of a case; bills for any costs owed; and files and records

garnishments and judgment liens.

• Domestic Relations Filings - Domestic Relations Division is located in Room 35 in the basement of the Old Courthouse.

- Responsible for processing divorces, dissolutions, legal separations, annulments, domestic violence, and

child support cases for Cuyahoga County.

• Court of Appeals Filings - Court of Appeals Division is located in Room 131 on the first floor of the Old Courthouse.

- Responsible for the filing of appellate court cases that originate from the Common Pleas Court, Juvenile

Court, Probate Court, Municipal Courts, Board of Tax Appeals, and the Court of Claims.

• Archived Records - Archives Division is located in Room 39 in the basement of the Old Courthouse.

- Responsible for organizing and maintaining files for archived/closed cases for the Court of Common

Pleas General and Domestic Relations Division, as well as, the 8th District Court of Appeals and

responding to customer requests for files stored in the Old Courthouse.
