Section 3 Before Installation
Please verify the uplink and downlink frequencies labeled on the equipment, ensure they match with your
PO and your system requirements. Please contact your sales representative if you find any discrepancy.
Read this manual before installation.
Install the equipment only in a normal indoor environment.
The built-in signal strength indicator supports quick deployment without additional tool and equipment.
However, we highly recommend that if possible, always use spectrum analyzer and other equipment to
assist the installation. Ideally, donor signal strength should have been measured prior to the installation
and the link budget and coverage have been calculated by certified RF system design engineer. BOM, test
plan and other documents must be in place prior to the installation.
Section 4 Safety Information and Regulations
Do not dismantle the equipment.
Do not add extra pressure to BDA enclosure or attach anything to the surface.
Use only the power adaptor supplied with the BDA, not any alternative.
The unit is for normal indoor environment application. Do not install the BDA in a strong electric,
high-intensity magnetic, corrosive, moist, excessive temperature and other harsh environments.
Install the BDA in a place that is not accessible by kids and unauthorized individuals. Install and ground the unit following local inbuilding and communication site construction codes.

Section 6 Step by Step Installation Instruction
Fig.2 Installation Procedure
1. Find a proper indoor position where a good grounding path is available, usually on a wall, and
install the BDA following the steps given in the QUICK START.
2. Follow the system design documents to locate the donor antenna ad service antennas. The donor
antenna and service antennas must have sufficient isolation, and 90dB minimum is recommended
to ensure the device is working normally. Donor antenna is typically installed on the rooftop or
outside wall with high elevation, avoiding any obstacle and in line of sight with the base station
antenna. The positions and number of service antennas must be designed properly by a qualified
system design engineer with proper RF planning tool.
3. Route the feed lines from the donor antenna to the BDA and service antennas to the BDA
following the system design documents. Connect the feed line to donor antenna, and feed line to
service antenna. Waterproof the connections. Do not connect the feedlines to the BDA.
4. Verify isolation between donor antenna and service antennas. If a network analyzer is available,
it is recommended to verify the isolation between the donor antenna and service antenna by
bypassing the BDA and testing the transmission between the port of the feedline to donor
antenna and the port of the feedline to service antenna. Minimum of 90dB is preferred. If the
isolation is less than 85dB, report to your project manager and system design engineer. Relocate

the donor antenna, or service antenna might be necessary. If both options are not applicable,
then the BDA gain needs to be adjusted to avoid self oscillation which needs approval from the
project manager and system design engineer, refer to step 12.
5. Adjust the donor antenna orientation.
5.1. If spectrum analyzer or other equivalent RF signal strength measurement equipment is
available (Highly recommended):
5.1.1 Set the spectrum analyzer's frequency range, bandwidth and other parameters.
5.1.2 Connect donor antenna to the input port of spectrum analyzer.
5.1.3 Adjust donor antenna direction until -45dBm to -55dBm signal strength is measured.
5.1.4 Connect the donor antenna port to the BDA ‘BTS’ port.
5.2. Install the donor antenna without spectrum analyzer:
In case spectrum analyzer or other equivalent RF signal strength measurement equipment is not
available, the “RUN” indicator on the front panel can be used to adjust the donor antenna
direction. When signal strength received from the donor antenna is lower than-48dBm, the
indicator is green; when the received signal strength is higher than -35dBm, the indicator is red;
when the received signal strength is between-45dBm and -38dBm, the indicator is orange. It is
suggested to adjust the direction of the donor antenna to make the indicator just change from
green to orange which indicates the received signal strength is around -48dBm.
5.2.1 Adjust the donor antenna direction until the “RUN” indicator just change from green to
orange.
5.2.2 Connect the donor antenna port to the BDA “BTS” port.
If the “RUN” indicator stays green when you change the donor antenna direction, this means the
donor signal is too weak and you will get degraded coverage even no coverage. Following are
what you need to do
5.2.3 Immediately report to the project manager and system design engineer.
5.2.4 Recommend to confirm the signal strength using a spectrum analyzer if possible.
5.2.5 Work with your project manager and system engineer, check if you can replace the donor
antenna by a higher gain antenna to get better signal.
5.2.6 Work with your project manager and system engineer, check if you can relocate the donor

antenna to get better signal.
6. Connect the service antenna to BDA’s “MS” port.
7. Set all attenuation switches on the ATT switch panel to off position, unless the system design
document requires to reduce the uplink and down gains from factory default values.
8. Check and ensure “BTS” and “MS” ports are connected to feedlines.
9. Connect the power adapter, and plug in the power supply.
10. Follow the test plan, walk test the call quality in the service area.
11. When it is needed, service antennas may be relocated to satisfy coverage requirement. You will
need to get approval from your project manager and system design engineer.
12. During the walk test, if self oscillation (Refer to Section 9) is observed, this means either the donor
signal is too strong or antenna isolation is insufficient. Report to the project manager and system
design engineer. Repeat Step 4, 5 and 10 if possible. If the self oscillation still occurs, then
13. The gain of uplink or the downlink, or both needs to be reduced. Use the combination of switches
1-5 for uplink and 6-10 for downlink to reduce the uplink and downlink gain respectively. Repeat
the walk test until the coverage is acceptable. Document and report to project manager and
system design engineer on the gain value settlement.
14. Document the installation and test reports, and submit to project manager for approval.
Section 9 Notices
1. Never power on the equipment before both “BTS” and “MS” are connected to feedlines.
2. Always remove excessive feed lines from the equipment to donor antenna and service antenna
to minimize the cable loss.
3. Always install the donor antenna at the most available highest position and keep distance from
the service antenna to maximize the isolation between each other. The vertical distance between
donor and service antenna should be more than 3 meters.
4. Certain isolation between donor antenna and service antenna are required to avoid self-
oscillation. In case self-oscillation happens, reposition is required for the antennas.
5. The donor antenna must be placed at least 2 meters away from other antennas on the same site.
6. All feed line connections must be waterproofed.

7. Self oscillation: During the walk test, if handheld indicates there is signal but no communication,
this often means self oscillation occurs. Check the RUN indicator, if it is red, this means the donor
signal is too strong or antenna isolation is insufficient. Adjust the downlink attenuation, if the red
indicator disappears, then this means the donor signal is too strong. If the red indicator does not
disappear, or the red indicator disappears only if both uplink and downlink ATT switches are on,
this indicates that there is no sufficient isolation between the donor antenna and service antennas.
Section 10 Troubleshooting
1. The power LED is OFF
Cause Action
Power supply cord has not been connected or
faulty
Check power supply connection
2. The power LED is ON (Green), but no signal transmits
Cause Action
Signal cable from service antenna has not been
connected
Check all connections
Signal cable is connected but cable is damage or
connector is broken
Make sure there is no sharp bends or breaks in
the cable, and check connectors to see whether
they are fixed firmly or not
3. Output power is not enough (Green)
Cause Action
Input signal is too weak and unstable (The “RUN”
indicator is green).
Adjust the donor antenna’s position and direction
to make sure the input signal is moderate.
4. Output power is full (Orange)
Cause Action
The BDA is working in linearity (The “RUN”
indicator is Orange).
This is the best working condition for the BDA. Do
not need to take any action.
5. Signal Oscillation (Red)
Cause Action
Over accepting of donor antenna or strong
interference (The “RUN” indicator is red).
Adjust the donor antenna’s position and direction
to make sure the input signal is moderate.
The isolation between donor antenna and service
antenna is not enough (The “RUN” indicator is
red).
Increase the distance between the two antennas
to make sure the isolation is more than 85dB.
