Abstract
Grade 8 Math- Realignment of 8th Grade Curriculum
The purpose of this cap is to align the curriculum to the New York State Common Core Standards and the published modules. The following modules are included:
Module 1: Integer Exponents and Scientific Notation Module 2: The Concept of Congruence Module 3: Similarity Module 4: Linear Equations Module 5: Examples of Functions form Geometry Module 6: Linear Functions Module 7: Introduction to Irrational Numbers Using Geometry
The following resources are to be used to help teachers address the needs of all students:
Buckle Down 8th gradeGo MathEngage NYAmsco Algebra 1
The Common Core Standards have been integrated into the math curriculum through the pacing calendar. These standards provide for a greater examination of the math concepts by the students. Additionally, this CAP includes a teacher friendly guide to the modules and aligns the New York State Standards to the Common Core. This will help prepare the students for the Math Assessment Test that they take in April.

Rationale
Grade 8
8th Grade Common Core Math- CAP
Summer 2013
The rationale for this CAP is based on the change in the New York State Standards for the 8th grade. The New York
State Core Curriculum adjusted the topics taught in the 8th grade. The new topics are organized into modules that go into
more depth than previous years. As a result, we needed to find new resources to make an easy transition for the students
entering 8th grade. The Common Core practices seek to develop math proficiency in students and establish a thorough
understanding of math practices. The pacing calendar was developed to make the best use of the time needed to prepare
the students for the upcoming exam based on the Common Core Standards and the new modules.
